1 ULB ፍልስጥኤማውያን ከእስራኤል ጋር ተዋጉ። የእስራኤል ሰዎች ከፍልስጥኤማውያን ፊት ሸሹ፥ በጊልቦዓ ተራራ ላይም ተገድለው ወደቁ። BSB BSB: Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before them, and many fell slain on Mount Gilboa.
2 ULB ፍልስጥኤማውያንም ሳኦልንና ልጆቹን በቅርብ ርቀት ተከተሏቸው። ፍልስጥኤማውያንም ልጆቹን ዮናታንን፥ አሚናዳብንና ሜልኪሳን ገደሏቸው። BSB BSB: The Philistines hotly pursued Saul and his sons, and they killed Saul’s sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.
3 ULB ውጊያው በሳኦል ላይ በረታበት፥ ቀስተኞችም አገኙት። በእነርሱም ምክንያት በጽኑ ሕመም ላይ ነበር። BSB BSB: When the battle intensified against Saul, the archers overtook him and wounded him critically.
4 ULB ሳኦልም ጋሻ ጃግሬውን፥”ሰይፍህን ምዘዝና ውጋኝ። አለበለዚያ፥ እነዚህ ያልተገረዙ መጥተው ይሳለቁብኛል“አለው። BSB BSB: Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through with it, or these uncircumcised men will come and run me through and torture me!” But his armor-bearer was terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
5 ULB ጋሻ ጃግሬው ግን እጅግ ፈርቶ ስለነበረ እምቢ እለ። ስለዚህ ሳኦል የራሱን ሰይፍ ወስዶ በላዩ ላይ ወደቀበት። ጋሻ ጃግሬው ሳኦል መሞቱን ባየ ጊዜ እርሱም ደግሞ ሰይፉ ላይ ወድቆ አብሮት ሞተ። BSB BSB: When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his own sword and died with him.
6 ULB ስለዚህ ሳኦል፥ ሦስቱ ወንዶች ልጆቹና ጋሻ ጃግሬው ሞቱ፤ እነዚህ ሰዎች ሁሉ በአንድ ቀን ሞቱ። BSB BSB: So Saul, his three sons, his armor-bearer, and all his men died together that same day.
7 ULB ከሸለቆው በወዲያኛው ወገን የነበሩትና ከዮርዳኖስ በላይ የነበሩት የእስራኤል ሰዎች፥ የእስራኤል ሰዎች መሸሻቸውን፥ ሳኦልና ልጆቹ መሞታቸውን ባዩ ጊዜ ከተሞቻቸውን ትተው ሸሹ፥ ፍልስጥኤማውያንም መጥተው ተቀመጡባቸው። BSB BSB: When the Israelites along the valley and those on the other side of the Jordan saw that the army of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their cities and ran away. So the Philistines came and occupied their cities.
8 ULB በማግስቱ እንዲህ ሆነ፥ ፍልስጥኤማውያን የሞቱትን ሰዎች ትጥቅ ለመግፈፍ በመጡ ጊዜ ሳኦልና ሦስቱ ልጆቹ በጊልቦዓ ተራራ ላይ ወድቀው አገኟቸው። BSB BSB: The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9 ULB እነርሱም ራሱን ቆረጡት፥ የጦር መሣሪያውንም ገፈፉት፥ ወደ ፍልስጥኤማውያን ምድር ሁሉ ለጣዖት መቅደሶቻቸውና ለሕዝቡ ወሬውን እንዲያደርሱ መልዕክተኞችን ላኩ። BSB BSB: They cut off Saul’s head, stripped off his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temples of their idols and among their people.
10 ULB የጦር መሣሪያውን በአስታሮት መቅደስ ውስጥ አስቀመጡት፥ ሬሳውንም በቤትሳን ከተማ የግንብ አጥር ላይ አንጠለጠሉት። BSB BSB: They put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths and hung his body on the wall of Beth-shan.
11 ULB የኢያቢስ ገለዓድ ሰዎች ፍልስጥኤማውያን በሳኦል ላይ ያደረጉትን በሰሙ ጊዜ BSB BSB: When the people of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 ULB ተዋጊ የሆኑ ሰዎች ሁሉ ተነሥተው ሌሊቱን ሁሉ ተጉዘው የሳኦልንና የልጆቹን ሬሳ ከአጥሩ ላይ ወሰዱ። ወደ ኢያቢስ ሄዱ፥ በዚያም አቃጠሏቸው። BSB BSB: all their men of valor set out, journeyed all night, and retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth-shan. When they arrived at Jabesh, they burned the bodies there.
13 ULB ከዚያም አጥንቶቻቸውን በመውሰድ በኢያቢስ ባለው የአጣጥ ዛፍ ሥር ቀበሯቸው፥ ሰባት ቀንም ጾሙ። BSB BSB: Then they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.
