1 ULB ዮሴፍ ወደ ግብፅ ተወስዶ ነበር፤ ከፈርዖንም ሹማምንት አንዱ የነበረውም የዘበኞች አለቃ፣ ግብፃዊው ጴጥፋራ ወደዚያ ከወሰዱት ከእስማኤላውያን ነጋዴዎች እጅ ገዛው። BSB BSB: Meanwhile, Joseph had been taken down to Egypt, where an Egyptian named Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.
2 ULB እግዚአብሔር ከዮሴፍ ጋር ስለነበረ ኑሮው ተቃናለት፤ እርሱም በግብፃዊው አሳዳሪው ቤት ኖረ። BSB BSB: And the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, serving in the household of his Egyptian master.
3 ULB አሳዳሪው እግዚአብሔር ከእርሱ ጋር እንዳለና ሥራውንም ሁሉ እንዳከናወነለት ባየ ጊዜ፣ BSB BSB: When his master saw that the LORD was with him and made him prosper in all he did,
4 ULB ዮሴፍ በእርሱ ዘንድ ሞገስ አገኘ፣ የቅርብ አገልጋዩም ሆነ። ጲጥፋራ በቤቱ ላይ ሾመው፣ ያለውንም ሀብት ሁሉ በኃፊነት ሰጠው። BSB BSB: Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household and entrusted him with everything he owned.
5 ULB ዮሴፍ በጲጥፋራ ቤትና ባለው ሀብት ሁሉ ላይ ከተሾመበት ጊዜ ጀምሮ እግዚአብሔር የግብፅዊውን ቤት ባረከ፣ የእግዚአብሔርም በረከት በግቢም በውጭም ባለው የጲጥፋራ ሀብት ንብረት ሁሉ ላይ ሆነ። BSB BSB: From the time that he put Joseph in charge of his household and all he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s household on account of him. The LORD’s blessing was on everything he owned, both in his house and in his field.
6 ULB ስለዚህ ጲጥፋራ ባለው ሁሉ ላይ ሥልጣን ሰጠው፣ የቀረበለትንም ከመመገብ በስተቀር፣ ማናቸውንም ጉዳይ በዮሴፍ ላይ ጥሎ ነበር። ዮሴፍ ጥሩ ቁመና ያለውና መልከ-መልካም ነበር፤ BSB BSB: So Potiphar left all that he owned in Joseph’s care; he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,
7 ULB ከጊዜ በኋላ የጌታው ሚስት ዮሴፍን ተመልክታ ስላፈቀረችው፣ “ና ከእኔ ጋር አብረን እንተኛ” አለችው። BSB BSB: and after some time his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph and said, “Sleep with me.”
8 ULB እርሱ ግን ይህን ለመፈጸም ፈቃደኛ አልሆነም፤ እንዲህም አላት፤ “ጌታዬ ያለውን ሁሉ በኃላፊነት ስለሰጠኝ፣ በቤቱ ውስጥ ስላልው ሁሉ ምንም የሚያውቀው ነገር የለም። BSB BSB: But he refused. “Look,” he said to his master’s wife, “with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in his house, and he has entrusted everything he owns to my care.
9 ULB በዚህ ቤት ላይ ከእኔ የበለጠ ኃላፊነት ያለው ማንም የለም፣ ከአንቺ በቀር በእኔ ቁጥጥር ሥር ያላደረገው ምንም ነገር የለም፤ ይኸውም ሚስቱ ስለሆንሽ ነው፤ ታዲያ፣ እኔ ይህን ክፉ ድርጊት በእግዚአብሔር ፊት እንዴት እፈጽማለሁ?” BSB BSB: No one in this house is greater than I am. He has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do such a great evil and sin against God?”
10 ULB ይህንም ነገር በየዕለቱ ለዮሴፍ ትነግረው ነበር፤ እርሱም ከእርሷ ጋር ይተኛ ዘንድ ከእርስዋም ጋር ይሆን ዘንድ አልሰማትም። BSB BSB: Although Potiphar’s wife spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be near her.
11 ULB አንድ ቀን ዮሴፍ ለሥራ ጉዳይ ወደ ቤት ሲገባ በቤት ውስጥ አንድም ሠራተኛ አልነበረም፤ BSB BSB: One day, however, Joseph went into the house to attend to his work, and not a single household servant was inside.
12 ULB እርሷም ልብሱን ጨምድዳ ይዛ፣ “በል አብረኸኝ ተኛ” አለችው። እርሱ ግን ልብሱን እጅዋ ላይ ትቶላት ከቤት ሸሽቶ ወጣ። BSB BSB: She grabbed Joseph by his cloak and said, “Sleep with me!” But leaving his cloak in her hand, he escaped and ran outside.
13 ULB እርሷም ልብሱን በእጅዋ ላይ ትቶ ከቤት ሸሽቶ መውጣቱን በተመለከተች ጊዜ፣ BSB BSB: When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house,
14 ULB አገልጋዮችዋን ጠርታ እንዲህ አለቻቸው፣ “እነሆ፣ ባለቤቴ ያመጣው ይህ ዕብራዊ ሊያዋርደኝ ነበር፤ ወዳለሁበት ክፍል ገብቶ ሊደፍረኝ ሞከረ፤ እኔ ግን ድምፄን ከፍ አድርጌ ጮኽሁ። BSB BSB: she called her household servants. “Look,” she said, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us. He came to me so he could sleep with me, but I screamed as loud as I could.
15 ULB ዕርዳታ ለማግኘትም መጮኼን በሰማ ጊዜ ልብሱን በአጠገቤ ትቶ ከቤት ሸሽቶ ወጣ።” BSB BSB: When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
16 ULB የዮሴፍ አሳዳሪ እስኪመጣ ድረስ ልብሱን በእርስዋ ዘንድ አቆየችው። BSB BSB: So Potiphar’s wife kept Joseph’s cloak beside her until his master came home.
17 ULB በመጣም ጊዜ የሆነውን ታሪክ እንዲህ ስትል ዘርዝራ ነገረችው፤ “አንተ ወደዚህ የመጣኸው ዕብራዊ አገልጋይ ወዳለሁበት ክፍል ገብቶ ሊያዋርደኝ ነበር። BSB BSB: Then she told him the same story: “The Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me,
18 ULB ነገር ግን ድምፄን ከፍ አድርጌ በጮኽሁ ጊዜ ልብሱን በአጠገቤ ትቶ ከቤት ሸሽቶ ወጣ።” BSB BSB: but when I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
19 ULB “የአንተ አገልጋይ እንዲህ አደረገኝ” ብላ የነገረችውን ታሪክ በሰማ ጊዜ የዮሴፍ አሳዳሪ እጅግ ተቆጣ። BSB BSB: When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is what your slave did to me,” he burned with anger.
20 ULB ዮሴፍንም ወስዶ፣ የንጉሥ እስረኞች ወደታሠሩበት እስር ቤት አስገባው። BSB BSB: So Joseph’s master took him and had him thrown into the prison where the king’s prisoners were confined. While Joseph was there in the prison,
21 ULB እግዚአብሔር ዘላለማዊ ፍቅሩን ዐሳየው፣ በእስር ቤት አዛዡም ዘንድ ሞገስን ሰጠው። BSB BSB: the LORD was with him and extended kindness to him, granting him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.
22 ULB ስለዚህ የእስር ቤቱ አዛዥ ዮሴፍን የእስረኞች ሁሉ አለቃ አደረገው፤ በእስር ቤት ላለውም ነገር ሁሉ ኃላፊ ሆነ። BSB BSB: And the warden put all the prisoners under Joseph’s care, so that he was responsible for all that was done in the prison.
23 ULB እግዚአብሔር ከዮሴፍ ጋር ሆኖ የሚያደርገው ነገር ሁሉ እንዲቃናለት ስላደረገ የእስር ቤት አዛዥ በዮሴፍ ቁጥጥር ሥር በነበረው ነገር ምንም ዐሳብ አልነበረበትም። BSB BSB: The warden did not concern himself with anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
