1 ULB ወርቁ ፈጽሞ ደበዘዘ፤ ንጹሁ ወርቅ ተለወጠ! የተቀደሱት ድንጋዮች በየመንገዱ ዳር ተበተኑ። BSB BSB: How the gold has become tarnished, the pure gold has become dull! The gems of the temple lie scattered on every street corner.
2 ULB የጽዮን ልጆች የከበሩ፥ከንጹህ ወርቅ በላይ የሚቆጠሩ ነበሩ። አሁን ግን በሸክላ ሠሪ እጅ እንደተሠሩ የሸክላ ዕቃዎች እንጂ ከምንም አልተቆጠሩም። BSB BSB: How the precious sons of Zion, once worth their weight in pure gold, are now esteemed as jars of clay, the work of a potter’s hands!
3 ULB ቀበሮዎች እንኳን ግልገሎቻቸውን ለማጥባት ጡቶቻቸውን ይገልጣሉ፥የሕዝቤ ሴት ልጅ ግን እንደ ምድረ በዳ ሰጎን ጨካኝ ሆነች። BSB BSB: Even jackals offer their breasts to nurse their young, but the daughter of my people has become cruel, like an ostrich in the wilderness.
4 ULB ከጥም የተነሳ የሚጠባው ሕጻን ምላስ ከላንቃው ጋር ተጣበቀ፤ሕጻናት እንጀራ ለመኑ፥ ነገር ግን የሚሰጣችው የለም። BSB BSB: The nursing infant’s tongue clings in thirst to the roof of his mouth. Little children beg for bread, but no one gives them any.
5 ULB በውድ ዋጋ የሚገዛ ምግብ ይመገቡ የነበሩ ተጥለዋል፥ በየመንገዱ ተርበዋል፤ቀይ ግምጃ ይለብሱ የነበሩ አሁን በቆሻሻ ክምር መካከል ናቸው። BSB BSB: Those who once ate delicacies are destitute in the streets; those brought up in crimson huddle in ash heaps.
6 ULB ምንም እጅ ሳይወድቅባት በድንገት ከተገለበጠች ከሰዶም ኃጢአት ይልቅ የሕዝቤ ሴት ልጅ ኃጢአት ታላቅ ነው። BSB BSB: The punishment of the daughter of my people is greater than that of Sodom, which was overthrown in an instant without a hand turned to help her.
7 ULB መሪዎቿ እንደ በረዶ የሚያንጸባርቁ ነበሩ፥እንደ ወተትም ነጭ ነበሩ። ሰውነታቸው ከቀይ ዕንቁ ይልቅ ቀይ ነበረ፥ መልካቸውም እንደ ሰንፔር ነበረ። BSB BSB: Her dignitaries were brighter than snow, whiter than milk; their bodies were more ruddy than rubies, their appearance like sapphires.
8 ULB አሁን ጨለማው ገጽታቸውን አጥቁሮታል፥ ቆዳቸው ከመነመኑ አጥንቶቻቸው ጋር ስለተጣበቀም በመንገዶች ላይ ማንነታቸው አልታወቀም። BSB BSB: But now their appearance is blacker than soot; they are not recognized in the streets. Their skin has shriveled on their bones; it has become as dry as a stick.
9 ULB በሰይፍ የተገደሉት በረሃብ ከሞቱት ይሻላሉ፥አንዳችም ሰብል ከእርሻ በመጥፋቱ በረሃብ ተወግተው ከተወገዱት ይሻላሉ። BSB BSB: Those slain by the sword are better off than those who die of hunger, who waste away, pierced with pain because the fields lack produce.
10 ULB የርኁሩኆቹ ሴቶች እጆች የገዛ ልጆቻቸውን ቀቀሉ፤ በሕዝቤ ሴት ልጅ የጥፋት ቀን እነዚህ ልጆች መብል ሆኑአቸው። BSB BSB: The hands of compassionate women have cooked their own children, who became their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
11 ULB እግዚአብሔር ቁጣውን አረካ። ጽኑ ቁጣውን አፈሰሰ፤ በጽዮን እሳትን አያያዘ፥ መሠረትዋንም በላ። BSB BSB: The LORD has exhausted His wrath; He has poured out His fierce anger; He has kindled a fire in Zion, and it has consumed her foundations.
12 ULB የምድር ነገሥታት ወይም በዓለም ከሚኖሩ ማናቸውም፥ ባላጋራ ወይም ጠላት በኢየሩሳሌም በሮች ይገባል ብለው አላመኑም። BSB BSB: The kings of the earth did not believe, nor any people of the world, that an enemy or a foe could enter the gates of Jerusalem.
13 ULB ነገር ግን የጻድቅን ደም በመካከልዋ ካፈሰሱ ከነቢያቶቿ ኃጢአትና ከካህናቷ በደል የተነሳ ይህን አደረጉ። BSB BSB: But this was for the sins of her prophets and the guilt of her priests, who shed the blood of the righteous in her midst.
14 ULB አሁን እነዚያ ነቢያትና ካህናት እንደ ዓይነ ስውራን ሰዎች በየጎዳናዎቹ ይቅበዘበዛሉ። ማንም ልብሶቻቸውን መንካት እስከማይችል ድረስ በደም ረክሰዋል። BSB BSB: They wandered blind in the streets, defiled by this blood, so that no one dared to touch their garments.
15 ULB «እናንተ ርኩሳን ለቃችሁ ሂዱ!» እያሉ በነቢያቱና ካህናቱ ላይ ይጮሁባቸዋል።«ለቃችሁ ሂዱ፥ለቃችሁ ሂዱ! አትንኩን!» ይሏቸዋል። ስለዚህ ወደ ሌላ ምድር ይቅበዘበዛሉ፥ ነገር ግን አሕዛብ እንኳን፥«ከእንግዲህ ወድያ በዚህ እንደ እንግዳ መኖር አይችሉም» ይላሉ። BSB BSB: “Go away! Unclean!” men shouted at them. “Away, away! Do not touch us!” So they fled and wandered. Among the nations it was said, “They can stay here no longer.”
16 ULB እግዚአብሔር ከማደሪያው በትኖአቸዋል፥ ከእንግዲህ ወድያ ወደ እነርሱ በርኅራኄ አይመለከትም። ማንም ከእንግዲህ ወድያ ካህናቱን በምንም መልኩ አክብሮ አይቀበላቸውም፥ ለሽማግሌዎቹም ግድ አልተሰኙም። BSB BSB: The presence of the LORD has scattered them; He regards them no more. The priests are shown no honor; the elders find no favor.
17 ULB የማይጠቅሙ ረዳቶችን እንኳ ለማግኘት ዓይኖቻችን ድከሙ፤ሊያድነን ወደማይችል ሕዝብ በጉጉት ተመለከቱ። BSB BSB: All the while our eyes were failing as we looked in vain for help. We watched from our towers for a nation that could not save us.
18 ULB በመንገዶቻችን ሁሉ እርምጃዎቻችንን ተከታተሉ። ፍፃሜያችን መጥቶአልና መጨረሻችን ቀርቦአል፥ ቀኖቻችንም አልቀዋል። BSB BSB: They stalked our every step, so that we could not walk in our streets. Our end drew near, our time ran out, for our end had come!
19 ULB አሳዳጆቻችን ከሰማይ ንስሮች ይልቅ ፈጣኖች ናቸው። በተራሮች ላይ አሳደዱን በምድረ በዳም ሸመቁብን። BSB BSB: Those who chased us were swifter than the eagles in the sky; they pursued us over the mountains and ambushed us in the wilderness.
20 ULB በእግዚአብሔር የተቀባው ንጉሣችን፥ የአፍንጫችን እስትንፋስ፥ በጉድጓቸው ተያዘ፤«በአሕዛብ መካከል በጥበቃው ሥር እንኖራልን» ብለን የተናገርንለት ንጉሣችን ነበር። BSB BSB: The LORD’s anointed, the breath of our life, was captured in their pits. We had said of him, “Under his shadow we will live among the nations.”
21 ULB በዖፅ ምድር የምትኖሪ የኤዶም ሴት ልጅ ሆይ፥ጽዋው ወደ አንቺም ያልፋልና ደስ ይበልሽ ሐሴትም አድርጊ። ትሰክሪያልሽ፥ እርቃንሽንም ትቀሪያልሽ። BSB BSB: So rejoice and be glad, O Daughter of Edom, you who dwell in the land of Uz. Yet the cup will pass to you as well; you will get drunk and expose yourself.
22 ULB የጽዮን ሴት ልጅ ሆይ በደልሽ ተፈጸመ። ከእንግዲህ ወዲያ በምርኮ አያኖርሽም። ነገር ግን የኤዶም ሴትልጅ ሆይ በደልሽን ይቀጣል። ኃጢአትሽንም ይገልጣል። BSB BSB: O Daughter of Zion, your punishment is complete; He will not prolong your exile. But He will punish your iniquity, O Daughter of Edom; He will expose your sins.
