The Covenant of the Rainbow 1 Brenton And God blessed Noe and his sons, and said to them, Increase and multiply, and fill the earth and have dominion over it. BSB BSB: And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.
Brenton And the dread and the fear of you shall be upon all the wild beasts of the earth, on all the birds of the sky, and on all things moving upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea, I have placed them under your power. BSB BSB: The fear and dread of you will fall on every living creature on the earth, every bird of the air, every creature that crawls on the ground, and all the fish of the sea. They are delivered into your hand.
Brenton And every reptile which is living shall be to you for meat, I have given all things to you as the green herbs. BSB BSB: Everything that lives and moves will be food for you; just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you all things.
Brenton But flesh with blood of life ye shall not eat. BSB BSB: But you must not eat meat with its lifeblood still in it.
Brenton For your blood of your lives will I require at the hand of all wild beasts, and I will require the life of man at the hand of his brother man. BSB BSB: And surely I will require the life of any man or beast by whose hand your lifeblood is shed. I will demand an accounting from anyone who takes the life of his fellow man:
Brenton He that sheds man's blood, instead of that blood shall his own be shed, for in the image of God I made man. BSB BSB: Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man his blood will be shed; for in His own image God has made mankind.
Brenton But do ye increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and have dominion over it. BSB BSB: But as for you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out across the earth and multiply upon it.”
Brenton And behold I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you, BSB BSB: “Behold, I now establish My covenant with you and your descendants after you,
Brenton and with every living creature with you, of birds and of beasts, and with all the wild beasts of the earth, as many as are with you, of all that come out of the ark. BSB BSB: and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth—every living thing that came out of the ark.
Brenton And I will establish my covenant with you and all flesh shall not any more die by the water of the flood, and there shall no more be a flood of water to destroy all the earth. BSB BSB: And I establish My covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
Brenton And the Lord God said to Noe, This is the sign of the covenant which I set between me and you, and between every living creature which is with you for perpetual generations. BSB BSB: And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between Me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:
Brenton I set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of covenant between me and the earth. BSB BSB: I have set My rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.
Brenton And it shall be when I gather clouds upon the earth, that my bow shall be seen in the cloud. BSB BSB: Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,
Brenton And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you, and between every living soul in all flesh, and there shall no longer be water for a deluge, so as to blot out all flesh. BSB BSB: I will remember My covenant between Me and you and every living creature of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
Brenton And my bow shall be in the cloud, and I will look to remember the everlasting covenant between me and the earth, and between every living soul in all flesh, which is upon the earth. BSB BSB: And whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of every kind that is on the earth.”
Brenton And God said to Noe, This is the sign of the covenant, which I have made between me and all flesh, which is upon the earth. BSB BSB: So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between Me and every creature on the earth.”
Noah’s Shame and Canaan’s Curse 18 Brenton Now the sons of Noe which came out of the ark, were Sem, Cham, Japheth. And Cham was father of Chanaan. BSB BSB: The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And Ham was the father of Canaan.
Brenton These three are the sons of Noe, of these were men scattered over all the earth. BSB BSB: These three were the sons of Noah, and from them the whole earth was populated.
Brenton And he drank of the wine, and was drunk, and was naked in his house. BSB BSB: But when he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and uncovered himself inside his tent.
Brenton And Cham the father of Chanaan saw the nakedness of his father, and he went out and told his two brothers without. BSB BSB: And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father’s nakedness and told his two brothers outside.
Brenton And Sem and Japheth having taken a garment, put it on both their backs and went backwards, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their face was backward, and they saw not the nakedness of their father. BSB BSB: Then Shem and Japheth took a garment and placed it across their shoulders, and walking backward, they covered their father’s nakedness. Their faces were turned away so that they did not see their father’s nakedness.
Brenton And Noe recovered from the wine, and knew all that his younger son had done to him. BSB BSB: When Noah awoke from his drunkenness and learned what his youngest son had done to him,
Brenton And he said, Cursed be the servant Chanaan, a slave shall he be to his brethren. BSB BSB: he said, “Cursed be Canaan! A servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.”
Shem’s Blessing and Noah’s Death 26 Brenton And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Sem, and Chanaan shall be his bond-servant. BSB BSB: He also declared: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the servant of Shem.
Brenton May God make room for Japheth, and let him dwell in the habitations of Sem, and let Chanaan be his servant. BSB BSB: May God expand the territory of Japheth; may he dwell in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be his servant.”
Brenton And Noe lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. BSB BSB: After the flood, Noah lived 350 years.
Brenton And all the days of Noe were nine hundred and fifty years, and he died. BSB BSB: So Noah lived a total of 950 years, and then he died.
