The Table of Nations (1 Chronicles 1:4–27)
1 Brenton Now these are the generations of the sons of Noe, Sem, Cham, Japheth; and sons were born to them after the flood. BSB BSB: This is the account of Noah’s sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, who also had sons after the flood.
The Japhethites 2 Brenton The sons of Japheth, Gamer, and Magog, and Madoi, and Jovan, and Elisa, and Thobel, and Mosoch, and Thiras. BSB BSB: The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
3 Brenton And the sons of Gamer, Aschanaz, and Riphath, and Thorgama. BSB BSB: The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
4 Brenton And the sons of Jovan, Elisa, and Tharseis, Cetians, Rhodians. BSB BSB: And the sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites, and the Rodanites.
5 Brenton From these were the islands of the Gentiles divided in their land, each according to his tongue, in their tribes and in their nations. BSB BSB: From these, the maritime peoples separated into their territories, according to their languages, by clans within their nations.
The Hamites 6 Brenton And the sons of Cham, Chus, and Mesrain, Phud, and Chanaan. BSB BSB: The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.
7 Brenton And the sons of Chus, Saba, and Evila, and Sabatha, and Rhegma, and Sabathaca. And the sons of Rhegma, Saba, and Dadan. BSB BSB: The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. And the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
8 Brenton And Chus begot Nebrod: he began to be a giant upon the earth. BSB BSB: Cush was the father of Nimrod, who began to be a mighty one on the earth.
9 Brenton He was a giant hunter before the Lord God; therefore they say, As Nebrod the giant hunter before the Lord. BSB BSB: He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; so it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD.”
10 Brenton And the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, and Orech, and Archad, and Chalanne, in the land of Senaar. BSB BSB: His kingdom began in Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
11 Brenton Out of that land came Assur, and built Ninevi, and the city Rhooboth, and Chalach, BSB BSB: From that land he went forth into Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,
12 Brenton and Dase between Ninevi and Chalach: this is the great city. BSB BSB: and Resen, which is between Nineveh and the great city of Calah.
13 Brenton And Mesrain begot the Ludiim, and the Nephthalim, and the Enemetiim, and the Labiim, BSB BSB: Mizraim was the father of the Ludites, the Anamites, the Lehabites, the Naphtuhites,
14 Brenton and the Patrosoniim, and the Chasmoniim (whence came forth Phylistiim) and the Gaphthoriim. BSB BSB: the Pathrusites, the Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came), and the Caphtorites.
15 Brenton And Chanaan begot Sidon his first-born, and the Chettite, BSB BSB: And Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites,
16 Brenton and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite, BSB BSB: the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,
17 Brenton and the Evite, and the Arukite, and the Asennite, BSB BSB: the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,
18 Brenton and the Aradian, and the Samarean, and the Amathite; and after this the tribes of the Chananites were dispersed. BSB BSB: the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Later the Canaanite clans were scattered,
19 Brenton And the boundaries of the Chananites were from Sidon till one comes to Gerara and Gaza, till one comes to Sodom and Gomorrha, Adama and Seboim, as far as Dasa. BSB BSB: and the borders of Canaan extended from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.
20 Brenton These were the sons of Cham in their tribes according to their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations. BSB BSB: These are the sons of Ham according to their clans, languages, lands, and nations.
The Semites 21 Brenton And to Sem himself also were children born, the father of all the sons of Heber, the brother of Japheth the elder. BSB BSB: And sons were also born to Shem, the older brother of Japheth; Shem was the forefather of all the sons of Eber.
22 Brenton Sons of Sem, Elam, and Assur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram, and Cainan. BSB BSB: The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
23 Brenton And sons of Aram, Uz, and Ul, and Gater, and Mosoch. BSB BSB: The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
24 Brenton And Arphaxad begot Cainan, and Cainan begot Sala. And Sala begot Heber. BSB BSB: Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.
25 Brenton And to Heber were born two sons, the name of the one, Phaleg, because in his days the earth was divided, and the name of his brother Jektan. BSB BSB: Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his days the earth was divided, and his brother was named Joktan.
26 Brenton And Jektan begot Elmodad, and Saleth, and Sarmoth, and Jarach, BSB BSB: And Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27 Brenton and Odorrha, and Aibel, and Decla, BSB BSB: Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28 Brenton and Eval, and Abimael, and Saba, BSB BSB: Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29 Brenton and Uphir, and Evila, and Jobab, all these were the sons of Jektan. BSB BSB: Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.
30 Brenton And their dwelling was from Masse, till one comes to Saphera, a mountain of the east. BSB BSB: Their territory extended from Mesha to Sephar, in the eastern hill country.
31 Brenton These were the sons of Sem in their tribes, according to their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations. BSB BSB: These are the sons of Shem, according to their clans, languages, lands, and nations.
32 Brenton These are the tribes of the sons of Noe, according to their generations, according to their nations: of them were the islands of the Gentiles scattered over the earth after the flood. BSB BSB: All these are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their generations and nations. From these the nations of the earth spread out after the flood.
