Psalm 64 64 Psalms Book 2 Brenton Septuagint The Hurtful Tongue (James 3:1–12)
Brenton For the end, a Psalm of David. Hear my prayer, O God, when I make my petition to thee; deliver my soul from fear of the enemy. BSB BSB: For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Hear, O God, my voice of complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
Brenton Thou hast sheltered me from the conspiracy of them that do wickedly; from the multitude of them that work iniquity; BSB BSB: Hide me from the scheming of the wicked, from the mob of workers of iniquity,
Brenton who have sharpened their tongues as a sword; they have bent their bow maliciously; BSB BSB: who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows,
Brenton to shoot in secret at the blameless; they will shoot him suddenly, and will not fear. BSB BSB: ambushing the innocent in seclusion, shooting suddenly, without fear.
Brenton They have set up for themselves an evil matter, they have given counsel to hide snares; they have said, Who shall see them? BSB BSB: They hold fast to their evil purpose; they speak of hiding their snares. “Who will see them?” they say.
Brenton They have searched out iniquity; they have wearied themselves with searching diligently, a man shall approach and the heart is deep, BSB BSB: They devise injustice and say, “We have perfected a secret plan.” For the inner man and the heart are mysterious.
Brenton and God shall be exalted, their wounds were caused by the weapon of the foolish children, BSB BSB: But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be wounded.
Brenton and their tongues have set him at nought, all that saw them were troubled; BSB BSB: They will be made to stumble, their own tongues turned against them. All who see will shake their heads.
Brenton and every man was alarmed, and they related the works of God, and understood his deeds. BSB BSB: Then all mankind will fear and proclaim the work of God; so they will ponder what He has done.
Brenton The righteous shall rejoice in the Lord, and hope on him, and all the upright in heart shall be praised. BSB BSB: Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in Him; let all the upright in heart exult.
