1 Corinthians 111 Corinthians11

Berean Standard BibleKing James Version

1. Roles in Worship

2. 1BSBYou are to imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.KJVKJV: Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
3. 2BSBNow I commend you for remembering me in everything and for maintaining the traditions, just as I passed them on to you.KJVKJV: Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
4. 3BSBBut I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.KJVKJV: But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
5. 4BSBEvery man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.KJVKJV: Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
6. 5BSBAnd every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for it is just as if her head were shaved.KJVKJV: But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
7. 6BSBIf a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off. And if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.KJVKJV: For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
8. 7BSBA man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.KJVKJV: For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
9. 8BSBFor man did not come from woman, but woman from man.KJVKJV: For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.
10. 9BSBNeither was man created for woman, but woman for man.KJVKJV: Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
11. 10BSBFor this reason a woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the angels.KJVKJV: For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.
12. 11BSBIn the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.KJVKJV: Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
13. 12BSBFor just as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.KJVKJV: For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.
14. 13BSBJudge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?KJVKJV: Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
15. 14BSBDoesn’t nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,KJVKJV: Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
16. 15BSBbut that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.KJVKJV: But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
17. 16BSBIf anyone is inclined to dispute this, we have no other practice, nor do the churches of God.KJVKJV: But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

18. Sharing in the Lord’s Supper

    (Matthew 26:20–30; Mark 14:17–26; Luke 22:14–23)

19. 17BSBIn the following instructions I have no praise to offer, because your gatherings do more harm than good.KJVKJV: Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.
20. 18BSBFirst of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.KJVKJV: For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.
21. 19BSBAnd indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved.KJVKJV: For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.
22. 20BSBNow then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat.KJVKJV: When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper.
23. 21BSBFor as you eat, each of you goes ahead without sharing his meal. While one remains hungry, another gets drunk.KJVKJV: For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
24. 22BSBDon’t you have your own homes in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What can I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? No, I will not!KJVKJV: What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.
25. 23BSBFor I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread,KJVKJV: For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
26. 24BSBand when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”KJVKJV: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
27. 25BSBIn the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”KJVKJV: After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
28. 26BSBFor as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.KJVKJV: For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.
29. 27BSBTherefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.KJVKJV: Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
30. 28BSBEach one must examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.KJVKJV: But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
31. 29BSBFor anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.KJVKJV: For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.
32. 30BSBThat is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.KJVKJV: For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
33. 31BSBNow if we judged ourselves properly, we would not come under judgment.KJVKJV: For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
34. 32BSBBut when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.KJVKJV: But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
35. 33BSBSo, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.KJVKJV: Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.
36. 34BSBIf anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you come together it will not result in judgment. And when I come, I will give instructions about the remaining matters.KJVKJV: And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.
