Timothy’s Visit 1 CPDV Because of this, willing to wait no longer, it was pleasing to us to remain at Athens, alone. BSB BSB: So when we could bear it no longer, we were willing to be left on our own in Athens.
CPDV And we sent Timothy, our brother and a minister of God in the Gospel of Christ, to confirm you and to exhort you, on behalf of your faith, BSB BSB: We sent Timothy, our brother and fellow worker for God in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith,
CPDV so that no one would be disturbed during these tribulations. For you yourselves know that we have been appointed to this. BSB BSB: so that none of you would be shaken by these trials. For you know that we are destined for this.
CPDV For even while we were with you, we predicted to you that we would suffer tribulations, even as it has happened, and as you know. BSB BSB: Indeed, when we were with you, we kept warning you that we would suffer persecution; and as you know, it has come to pass.
CPDV For this reason also, I was not willing to wait any longer, and I sent to find out about your faith, lest perhaps he who tempts may have tempted you, and our labor might have been in vain. BSB BSB: For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter had somehow tempted you and that our labor might have been in vain.
Timothy’s Encouraging Report 6 CPDV But then, when Timothy arrived to us from you, he reported to us your faith and charity, and that you keep a good remembrance of us always, desiring to see us, just as we likewise desire to see you. BSB BSB: But just now, Timothy has returned from his visit with the good news about your faith, your love, and the fond memories you have preserved, longing to see us just as we long to see you.
CPDV As a result, we were consoled in you, brothers, in the midst of all our difficulties and tribulations, through your faith. BSB BSB: For this reason, brothers, in all our distress and persecution, we have been reassured about you, because of your faith.
CPDV For we now live so that you may stand firm in the Lord. BSB BSB: For now we can go on living, as long as you are standing firm in the Lord.
CPDV For what thanks would we be able to repay to God because of you, for all the joy with which we rejoice over you before our God? BSB BSB: How can we adequately thank God for you in return for our great joy over you in His presence?
CPDV For night and day, ever more abundantly, we are praying that we may see your face, and that we may complete those things that are lacking in your faith. BSB BSB: Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking in your faith.
CPDV But may God our Father himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you. BSB BSB: Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you.
CPDV And may the Lord multiply you, and make you abound in your charity toward one another and toward all, just as we also do toward you, BSB BSB: And may the Lord cause you to increase and overflow with love for one another and for everyone else, just as our love for you overflows,
CPDV in order to confirm your hearts without blame, in sanctity, before God our Father, unto the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, with all his saints. Amen. BSB BSB: so that He may establish your hearts in blamelessness and holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints. Amen.
