Living to Please God 1 CPDV Therefore, concerning other things, brothers, we ask and beg you, in the Lord Jesus, that, just as you have received from us the way in which you ought to walk and to please God, so also may you walk, in order that you may abound all the more. BSB BSB: Finally, brothers, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus to live in a way that is pleasing to God, just as you have received from us. This is how you already live, so you should do so all the more.
2 CPDV For you know what precepts I have given to you through the Lord Jesus. BSB BSB: For you know the instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
3 CPDV For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from fornication, BSB BSB: For it is God’s will that you should be holy: You must abstain from sexual immorality;
4 CPDV that each one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor, BSB BSB: each of you must know how to control his own body in holiness and honor,
5 CPDV not in passions of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God, BSB BSB: not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God;
6 CPDV and that no one should overwhelm or circumvent his brother in business. For the Lord is the vindicator of all these things, just as we have preached and testified to you. BSB BSB: and no one should ever violate or exploit his brother in this regard, because the Lord will avenge all such acts, as we have already told you and solemnly warned you.
7 CPDV For God has not called us to impurity, but to sanctification. BSB BSB: For God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness.
8 CPDV And so, whoever despises these teachings, does not despise man, but God, who has even provided his Holy Spirit within us. BSB BSB: Anyone, then, who rejects this command does not reject man but God, the very One who gives you His Holy Spirit.
9 CPDV But concerning the charity of brotherhood, we have no need to write to you. For you yourselves have learned from God that you should love one another. BSB BSB: Now about brotherly love, you do not need anyone to write to you, because you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another.
10 CPDV For indeed, you act in this way with all the brothers in all of Macedonia. But we petition you, brothers, so that you may abound all the more, BSB BSB: And you are indeed showing this love to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to excel more and more
11 CPDV to choose work that allows you to be tranquil, and to carry out your business and to do your work with your own hands, just as we have instructed you, BSB BSB: and to aspire to live quietly, to attend to your own matters, and to work with your own hands, as we instructed you.
12 CPDV and to walk honestly with those who are outside, and to desire nothing belonging to another. BSB BSB: Then you will behave properly toward outsiders, without being dependent on anyone.
The Return of the Lord 14 CPDV For if we believe that Jesus has died and risen again, so also will God bring back with Jesus those who sleep in him. BSB BSB: For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.
15 CPDV For we say this to you, in the Word of the Lord: that we who are alive, who remain until the return of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. BSB BSB: By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep.
17 CPDV Next, we who are alive, who are remaining, shall be taken up quickly together with them into the clouds to meet Christ in the air. And in this way, we shall be with the Lord always. BSB BSB: After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.
18 CPDV Therefore, console one another with these words. BSB BSB: Therefore encourage one another with these words.
