In My Father’s House Are Many Rooms 2 CPDV In my Father’s house, there are many dwelling places. If there were not, I would have told you. For I go to prepare a place for you. BSB BSB: In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
3 CPDV And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will return again, and then I will take you to myself, so that where I am, you also may be. BSB BSB: And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.
4 CPDV And you know where I am going. And you know the way.” BSB BSB: You know the way to the place where I am going.”
The Way, the Truth, and the Life 5 CPDV Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” BSB BSB: “Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”
7 CPDV If you had known me, certainly you would also have known my Father. And from now on, you shall know him, and you have seen him.” BSB BSB: If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”
8 CPDV Philip said to him, “Lord, reveal the Father to us, and it is enough for us.” BSB BSB: Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
10 CPDV Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I am speaking to you, I do not speak from myself. But the Father abiding in me, he does these works. BSB BSB: Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works.
11 CPDV Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? BSB BSB: Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me—or at least believe on account of the works themselves.
12 CPDV Or else, believe because of these same works. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me shall also do the works that I do. And greater things than these shall he do, for I go to the Father. BSB BSB: Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 CPDV And whatever you shall ask the Father in my name, that I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. BSB BSB: And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 CPDV If you shall ask anything of me in my name, that I will do. BSB BSB: If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit (John 16:5–16)
17 CPDV the Spirit of Truth, whom the world is not able to accept, because it neither perceives him nor knows him. But you shall know him. For he will remain with you, and he will be in you. BSB BSB: the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.
18 CPDV I will not leave you orphans. I will return to you. BSB BSB: I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19 CPDV Yet a little while and the world will not see me any longer. But you will see me. For I live, and you shall live. BSB BSB: In a little while the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.
20 CPDV In that day, you shall know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. BSB BSB: On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.
21 CPDV Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them: it is he who loves me. And whoever loves me shall be loved by my Father. And I will love him, and I will manifest myself to him.” BSB BSB: Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”
22 CPDV Judas, not the Iscariot, said to him: “Lord, how does it happen that you will manifest yourself to us and not to the world?” BSB BSB: Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”
24 CPDV Whoever does not love me, does not keep not my words. And the word that you have heard is not of me, but it is of the Father who sent me. BSB BSB: Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.
25 CPDV These things I have spoken to you, while abiding with you. BSB BSB: All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
Peace I Leave with You 29 CPDV And now I have told you this, before it happens, so that, when it will happen, you may believe. BSB BSB: And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
30 CPDV I will not now speak at length with you. For the prince of this world is coming, but he does not have anything in me. BSB BSB: I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on Me.
31 CPDV Yet this is so that the world may know that I love the Father, and that I am acting according to the commandment that the Father has given to me. Rise up, let us go from here.” BSB BSB: But I do exactly what the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us go on from here.
