CPDV As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” BSB BSB: While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
CPDV When he had said these things, he spat on the ground, and he made clay from the spittle, and he smeared the clay over his eyes. BSB BSB: When Jesus had said this, He spit on the ground, made some mud, and applied it to the man’s eyes.
CPDV And so the bystanders and those who had seen him before, when he was a beggar, said, “Is this not the one who was sitting and begging?” Some said, “This is he.” BSB BSB: At this, his neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging began to ask, “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?”
CPDV But others said, “Certainly not, but he is similar to him.” Yet truly, he himself said, “I am he.” BSB BSB: Some claimed that he was, but others said, “No, he just looks like him.” But the man kept saying, “I am the one.”
CPDV Therefore, they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?” BSB BSB: “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.
CPDV He responded: “That man who is called Jesus made clay, and he anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ And I went, and I washed, and I see.” BSB BSB: He answered, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and anointed my eyes, and He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed and received my sight.”

CPDV Therefore, again the Pharisees questioned him as to how he had seen. And he said to them, “He placed clay over my eyes, and I washed, and I see.” BSB BSB: So the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. The man answered, “He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and now I can see.”
CPDV And so certain Pharisees said: “This man, who does not keep the Sabbath, is not from God.” But others said, “How could a sinful man accomplish these signs?” And there was a schism among them. BSB BSB: Because of this, some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for He does not keep the Sabbath.” But others said, “How can a sinful man perform such signs?” And there was division among them.
CPDV Therefore, they spoke again to the blind man, “What do you say about him who opened your eyes?” Then he said, “He is a Prophet.” BSB BSB: So once again they asked the man who had been blind, “What do you say about Him, since it was your eyes He opened?” “He is a prophet,” the man replied.
CPDV Therefore, the Jews did not believe, about him, that he had been blind and had seen, until they called the parents of him who had seen. BSB BSB: The Jews still did not believe that the man had been blind and had received his sight until they summoned his parents
CPDV And they questioned them, saying: “Is this your son, whom you say was born blind? Then how is it that he now sees?” BSB BSB: and asked, “Is this your son, the one you say was born blind? So how is it that he can now see?”
CPDV His parents responded to them and said: “We know that this is our son and that he was born blind. BSB BSB: His parents answered, “We know he is our son, and we know he was born blind.
CPDV But how it is that he now sees, we do not know. And who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him. He is old enough. Let him speak for himself.” BSB BSB: But how he can now see or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him. He is old enough to speak for himself.”
CPDV His parents said these things because they were afraid of the Jews. For the Jews had already conspired, so that if anyone were to confess him to be the Christ, he would be expelled from the synagogue. BSB BSB: His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews. For the Jews had already determined that anyone who confessed Jesus as the Christ would be put out of the synagogue.
CPDV It was for this reason that his parents said: “He is old enough. Ask him.” BSB BSB: That was why his parents said, “He is old enough. Ask him.”
CPDV Therefore, they again called the man who had been blind, and they said to him: “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.” BSB BSB: So a second time they called for the man who had been blind and said, “Give glory to God! We know that this man is a sinner.”
CPDV And so he said to them: “If he is a sinner, I do not know it. One thing I do know, that although I was blind, now I see.” BSB BSB: He answered, “Whether He is a sinner I do not know. There is one thing I do know: I was blind, but now I see!”
CPDV Then they said to him: “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” BSB BSB: “What did He do to you?” they asked. “How did He open your eyes?”
CPDV He answered them: “I have already told you, and you heard it. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?” BSB BSB: He replied, “I already told you, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?”
CPDV Therefore, they cursed him and said: “You be his disciple. But we are disciples of Moses. BSB BSB: Then they heaped insults on him and said, “You are His disciple; we are disciples of Moses.
CPDV We know that God spoke to Moses. But this man, we do not know where he is from.” BSB BSB: We know that God spoke to Moses, but we do not know where this man is from.”
CPDV The man responded and said to them: “Now in this is a wonder: that you do not know where he is from, and yet he has opened my eyes. BSB BSB: “That is remarkable indeed!” the man said. “You do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes.
CPDV And we know that God does not hear sinners. But if anyone is a worshipper of God and does his will, then he heeds him. BSB BSB: We know that God does not listen to sinners, but He does listen to the one who worships Him and does His will.

Spiritual Blindness 35 CPDV Jesus heard that they had cast him out. And when he had found him, he said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?” BSB BSB: When Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, He found the man and said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
CPDV He responded and said, “Who is he, Lord, so that I may believe in him?” BSB BSB: “Who is He, Sir?” he replied. “Tell me so that I may believe in Him.”
CPDV And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen him, and he is the one who is speaking with you.” BSB BSB: “You have already seen Him,” Jesus answered. “He is the One speaking with you.”
CPDV And he said, “I believe, Lord.” And falling prostrate, he worshipped him. BSB BSB: “Lord, I believe,” he said. And he worshiped Jesus.
CPDV And Jesus said, “I came into this world in judgment, so that those who do not see, may see; and so that those who see, may become blind.” BSB BSB: Then Jesus declared, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind may see and those who see may become blind.”
CPDV And certain Pharisees, who were with him, heard this, and they said to him, “Are we also blind?” BSB BSB: Some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard this, and they asked Him, “Are we blind too?”
CPDV Jesus said to them: “If you were blind, you would not have sin. Yet now you say, ‘We see.’ So your sin persists.” BSB BSB: “If you were blind,” Jesus replied, “you would not be guilty of sin. But since you claim you can see, your guilt remains.”
