Forty-Two Journeys of the Israelites 1 CPDV These are the lodging places of the sons of Israel, who departed from Egypt by their companies under the hand of Moses and Aaron, BSB BSB: These are the journeys of the Israelites when they came out of the land of Egypt by their divisions under the leadership of Moses and Aaron.
3 CPDV Thus the sons of Israel set out from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month, on the day after the Passover, with an exalted hand, being seen by all the Egyptians. BSB BSB: On the fifteenth day of the first month, on the day after the Passover, the Israelites set out from Rameses. They marched out defiantly in full view of all the Egyptians,
4 CPDV And these were burying their firstborn, whom the Lord had struck down (for so, too, did he carry out retribution against their gods). BSB BSB: who were burying all their firstborn, whom the LORD had struck down among them; for the LORD had executed judgment against their gods.
5 CPDV And they made camp at Soccoth. BSB BSB: The Israelites set out from Rameses and camped at Succoth.
6 CPDV And from Soccoth they went to Etham, which is at the furthest limits of the wilderness. BSB BSB: They set out from Succoth and camped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness.
7 CPDV Departing from there, they arrived opposite Pi-hahiroth, which looks out toward Baal-zephon, and they were encamped before Migdol. BSB BSB: They set out from Etham and turned back to Pi-hahiroth, opposite Baal-zephon, and they camped near Migdol.
8 CPDV And setting out from Pi-hahiroth, they crossed through the middle of the Sea into the wilderness. And having walked for three days through the desert of Etham, they made camp at Marah. BSB BSB: They set out from Pi-hahiroth and crossed through the sea, into the wilderness, and they journeyed three days into the Wilderness of Etham and camped at Marah.
9 CPDV And setting out from Marah, they arrived at Elim, where there were twelve fountains of water and seventy palm trees. And they set up camp there. BSB BSB: They set out from Marah and came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there.
10 CPDV But departing from there also, they fixed their tents above the Red Sea. And setting out from the Red Sea, BSB BSB: They set out from Elim and camped by the Red Sea.
11 CPDV they were encamped in the desert of Sin. BSB BSB: They set out from the Red Sea and camped in the Desert of Sin.
12 CPDV Departing from there, they went to Dophkah. BSB BSB: They set out from the Desert of Sin and camped at Dophkah.
13 CPDV And setting out from Dophkah, they made camp at Alush. BSB BSB: They set out from Dophkah and camped at Alush.
14 CPDV And departing from Alush, they fixed their tents at Rephidim, where the people lacked water to drink. BSB BSB: They set out from Alush and camped at Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink.
15 CPDV And setting out from Rephidim, they camped in the desert of Sinai. BSB BSB: They set out from Rephidim and camped in the Wilderness of Sinai.
16 CPDV But departing also from the wilderness of the Sinai, they arrived at the Graves of Lust. BSB BSB: They set out from the Wilderness of Sinai and camped at Kibroth-hattaavah.

20 CPDV And departing from there, they arrived at Libnah. BSB BSB: They set out from Rimmon-perez and camped at Libnah.
21 CPDV From Libnah, they made camp at Rissah. BSB BSB: They set out from Libnah and camped at Rissah.
22 CPDV And departing from Rissah, they went to Kehelathah. BSB BSB: They set out from Rissah and camped at Kehelathah.
23 CPDV Setting out from there, they were encamped at mount Shepher. BSB BSB: They set out from Kehelathah and camped at Mount Shepher.
24 CPDV Departing from mount Shepher, they went to Haradah. BSB BSB: They set out from Mount Shepher and camped at Haradah.
25 CPDV Continuing on from there, they made camp at Makheloth. BSB BSB: They set out from Haradah and camped at Makheloth.
26 CPDV And setting out from Makheloth, they went to Tahath. BSB BSB: They set out from Makheloth and camped at Tahath.
27 CPDV From Tahath, they made camp at Terah. BSB BSB: They set out from Tahath and camped at Terah.
28 CPDV Departing from there, they pitched their tents at Mithkah. BSB BSB: They set out from Terah and camped at Mithkah.
29 CPDV And from Mithkah, they were encamped at Hashmonah. BSB BSB: They set out from Mithkah and camped at Hashmonah.
30 CPDV And setting out from Hashmonah, they went to Moseroth. BSB BSB: They set out from Hashmonah and camped at Moseroth.
31 CPDV And from Moseroth, they made camp at Bene-jaakan. BSB BSB: They set out from Moseroth and camped at Bene-jaakan.
32 CPDV And setting out from Bene-jaakan, they went to mount Gidgad. BSB BSB: They set out from Bene-jaakan and camped at Hor-haggidgad.
33 CPDV Setting out from there, they were encamped at Jotbathah. BSB BSB: They set out from Hor-haggidgad and camped at Jotbathah.
34 CPDV And from Jotbathah, they went to Abronah. BSB BSB: They set out from Jotbathah and camped at Abronah.
35 CPDV And departing from Abronah, they made camp at Eziongeber. BSB BSB: They set out from Abronah and camped at Ezion-geber.
36 CPDV Setting out from there, they went into the desert of Sin, which is Kadesh. BSB BSB: They set out from Ezion-geber and camped at Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin.
37 CPDV And departing from Kadesh, they encamped at mount Hor, at the furthermost limits of the land of Edom. BSB BSB: They set out from Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor, on the outskirts of the land of Edom.
38 CPDV And Aaron the priest ascended onto mount Hor, by the order of the Lord. And there he died, in the fortieth year of the departure of the sons of Israel from Egypt, in the fifth month, on the first day of the month, BSB BSB: At the LORD’s command, Aaron the priest climbed Mount Hor and died there on the first day of the fifth month, in the fortieth year after the Israelites had come out of the land of Egypt.
39 CPDV when he was one hundred twenty-three years old. BSB BSB: Aaron was 123 years old when he died on Mount Hor.
40 CPDV And king Arad the Canaanite, who lived toward the south, heard that the sons of Israel had arrived in the land of Canaan. BSB BSB: Now the Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the Negev in the land of Canaan, heard that the Israelites were coming.
41 CPDV And setting out from mount Hor, they made camp at Zalmonah. BSB BSB: And the Israelites set out from Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah.
42 CPDV Departing from there, they went to Punon. BSB BSB: They set out from Zalmonah and camped at Punon.
43 CPDV And setting out from Punon, they were encamped at Oboth. BSB BSB: They set out from Punon and camped at Oboth.
44 CPDV And from Oboth, they went to Iye-abarim, which is at the borders of the Moabites. BSB BSB: They set out from Oboth and camped at Iye-abarim on the border of Moab.
45 CPDV And setting out from Iye-abarim, they fixed their tents at Dibon-gad. BSB BSB: They set out from Iyim and camped at Dibon-gad.
46 CPDV Departing from there, they made camp at Almon-diblathaim. BSB BSB: They set out from Dibon-gad and camped at Almon-diblathaim.
47 CPDV And departing from Almon-diblathaim, they went to the mountains of Abarim, opposite Nebo. BSB BSB: They set out from Almon-diblathaim and camped in the mountains of Abarim facing Nebo.
48 CPDV And setting out from the mountains of Abarim, they crossed over to the plains of Moab, above the Jordan, opposite Jericho. BSB BSB: They set out from the mountains of Abarim and camped on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho.
49 CPDV And they made camp there, from Beth-jeshimoth all the way to Abel-shittim, in the level places of the Moabites, BSB BSB: And there on the plains of Moab they camped by the Jordan, from Beth-jeshimoth to Abel-shittim.
Instructions for Occupying Canaan 50 CPDV where the Lord said to Moses: BSB BSB: On the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho, the LORD said to Moses,
51 CPDV “Instruct the sons of Israel, and say to them: When you will have crossed over the Jordan, entering into the land of Canaan, BSB BSB: “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
52 CPDV destroy all the inhabitants of that land. Break their monuments, and shatter their statues, and lay waste to every exalted thing, BSB BSB: you must drive out before you all the inhabitants of the land, destroy all their carved images and cast idols, and demolish all their high places.
53 CPDV cleansing the land and living in it. For I have given it you as a possession, BSB BSB: You are to take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess.
54 CPDV which you shall divide among you by lot. To the greater number you shall give more, and to the lesser number, less. To each one, just as the lot shall fall, so shall the inheritance be distributed. The possession shall be divided by the tribes and families. BSB BSB: And you are to divide the land by lot according to your clans. Give a larger inheritance to a larger clan and a smaller inheritance to a smaller one. Whatever falls to each one by lot will be his. You will receive an inheritance according to the tribes of your fathers.
55 CPDV But if you are not willing to put to death the inhabitants of the land, those who remain shall be to you like spikes in your eyes and lances in your sides, and they shall be adversaries to you in the land of your habitation. BSB BSB: But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land before you, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides; they will harass you in the land where you settle.
56 CPDV And whatever I had decided to do to them, I will do to you.” BSB BSB: And then I will do to you what I had planned to do to them.”
