The Triumphant Messiah (Acts 4:23–31)
CPDV Why have the Gentiles been seething, and why have the people been pondering nonsense? BSB BSB: Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?
CPDV The kings of the earth have stood up, and the leaders have joined together as one, against the Lord and against his Christ: BSB BSB: The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together, against the LORD and against His Anointed One:
CPDV “Let us shatter their chains and cast their yoke away from us.” BSB BSB: “Let us break Their chains and cast away Their cords.”
CPDV He who dwells in heaven will ridicule them, and the Lord will mock them. BSB BSB: The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord taunts them.
CPDV Then will he speak to them in his anger and trouble them with his fury. BSB BSB: Then He rebukes them in His anger, and terrifies them in His fury:
CPDV Yet I have been appointed king by him over Zion, his holy mountain, preaching his precepts. BSB BSB: “I have installed My King on Zion, upon My holy mountain.”
CPDV The Lord has said to me: You are my son, this day have I begotten you. BSB BSB: I will proclaim the decree spoken to Me by the LORD: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.
CPDV Ask of me and I will give to you: the Gentiles for your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for your possession. BSB BSB: Ask Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance, the ends of the earth Your possession.
CPDV You will rule them with an iron rod, and you will shatter them like a potter’s vessel. BSB BSB: You will break them with an iron scepter; You will shatter them like pottery.”
CPDV And now, O kings, understand. Receive instruction, you who judge the earth. BSB BSB: Therefore be wise, O kings; be admonished, O judges of the earth.
CPDV Serve the Lord in fear, and exult in him with trembling. BSB BSB: Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
CPDV Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord might become angry, and you would perish from the way of the just. Though his wrath can flare up in a short time, blessed are all those who trust in him. BSB BSB: Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and you perish in your rebellion, when His wrath ignites in an instant. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.
