God’s Righteous Judgment (Psalm 75:1–10)
CPDV For this reason, O man, each one of you who judges is inexcusable. For by that which you judge another, you condemn yourself. For you do the same things that you judge. BSB BSB: You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on another. For on whatever grounds you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
CPDV For we know that the judgment of God is in accord with truth against those who do such things. BSB BSB: And we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.
CPDV But, O man, when you judge those who do such things as you yourself also do, do you think that you will escape the judgment of God? BSB BSB: So when you, O man, pass judgment on others, yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment?
CPDV Or do you despise the riches of his goodness and patience and forbearance? Do you not know that the kindness of God is calling you to repentance? BSB BSB: Or do you disregard the riches of His kindness, tolerance, and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?
CPDV But in accord with your hard and impenitent heart, you store up wrath for yourself, unto the day of wrath and of revelation by the just judgment of God. BSB BSB: But because of your hard and unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.
CPDV To those who, in accord with patient good works, seek glory and honor and incorruption, certainly, he will render eternal life. BSB BSB: To those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life.
CPDV But to those who are contentious and who do not acquiesce to the truth, but instead trust in iniquity, he will render wrath and indignation. BSB BSB: But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger.
CPDV Tribulation and anguish are upon every soul of man that works evil: the Jew first, and also the Greek. BSB BSB: There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil, first for the Jew, then for the Greek;
CPDV But glory and honor and peace are for all who do what is good: the Jew first, and also the Greek. BSB BSB: but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, first for the Jew, then for the Greek.
CPDV For there is no favoritism with God. BSB BSB: For God does not show favoritism.
CPDV For whoever had sinned without the law, will perish without the law. And whoever had sinned in the law, will be judged by the law. BSB BSB: All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.
CPDV For it is not the hearers of the law who are just before God, but rather it is the doers of the law who shall be justified. BSB BSB: For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but it is the doers of the law who will be declared righteous.
CPDV For when the Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature those things which are of the law, such persons, not having the law, are a law unto themselves. BSB BSB: Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 CPDV For they reveal the work of the law written in their hearts, while their conscience renders testimony about them, and their thoughts within themselves also accuse or even defend them, BSB BSB: So they show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts either accusing or defending them
CPDV unto the day when God shall judge the hidden things of men, through Jesus Christ, according to my Gospel. BSB BSB: on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Christ Jesus, as proclaimed by my gospel.
The Jews and the Law 17 CPDV But if you are called by name a Jew, and you rest upon the law, and you find glory in God, BSB BSB: Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God;
CPDV and you have known his will, and you demonstrate the more useful things, having been instructed by the law: BSB BSB: if you know His will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law;
CPDV you become confident within yourself that you are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, BSB BSB: if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those in darkness,
CPDV an instructor to the foolish, a teacher to children, because you have a type of knowledge and truth in the law. BSB BSB: an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth—
CPDV As a result, you teach others, but you do not teach yourself. You preach that men should not steal, but you yourself steal. BSB BSB: you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?
CPDV You speak against adultery, but you commit adultery. You abominate idols, but you commit sacrilege. BSB BSB: You who forbid adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
CPDV You would glory in the law, but through a betrayal of the law you dishonor God. BSB BSB: You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?
CPDV (For because of you the name of God is being blasphemed among the Gentiles, just as it was written.) BSB BSB: As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”
CPDV Certainly, circumcision is beneficial, if you observe the law. But if you are a betrayer of the law, your circumcision becomes uncircumcision. BSB BSB: Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
CPDV And so, if the uncircumcised keep the justices of the law, shall not this lack of circumcision be counted as circumcision? BSB BSB: If a man who is not circumcised keeps the requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision?
CPDV And that which is by nature uncircumcised, if it fulfills the law, should it not judge you, who by the letter and by circumcision are a betrayer of the law? BSB BSB: The one who is physically uncircumcised yet keeps the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker.
CPDV For a Jew is not he who seems so outwardly. Neither is circumcision that which seems so outwardly, in the flesh. BSB BSB: A man is not a Jew because he is one outwardly, nor is circumcision only outward and physical.
CPDV But a Jew is he who is so inwardly. And circumcision of the heart is in the spirit, not in the letter. For its praise is not of men, but of God. BSB BSB: No, a man is a Jew because he is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise does not come from men, but from God.
