God Remains Faithful 2 CPDV Much in every way: First of all, certainly, because the eloquence of God was entrusted to them. BSB BSB: Much in every way. First of all, they have been entrusted with the very words of God.
CPDV But what if some of them have not believed? Shall their unbelief nullify the faith of God? Let it not be so! BSB BSB: What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God’s faithfulness?
CPDV For God is truthful, but every man is deceitful; just as it was written: “Therefore, you are justified in your words, and you will prevail when you give judgment.” BSB BSB: Certainly not! Let God be true and every man a liar. As it is written: “So that You may be proved right when You speak and victorious when You judge.”
CPDV But if even our injustice points to the justice of God, what shall we say? Could God be unfair for inflicting wrath? BSB BSB: But if our unrighteousness highlights the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unjust to inflict His wrath on us? I am speaking in human terms.
CPDV (I am speaking in human terms.) Let it not be so! Otherwise, how would God judge this world? BSB BSB: Certainly not! In that case, how could God judge the world?
CPDV For if the truth of God has abounded, through my falseness, unto his glory, why should I still be judged as such a sinner? BSB BSB: However, if my falsehood accentuates God’s truthfulness, to the increase of His glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?
CPDV And should we not do evil, so that good may result? For so we have been slandered, and so some have claimed we said; their condemnation is just. BSB BSB: Why not say, as some slanderously claim that we say, “Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is deserved!
There Is No One Righteous (Psalm 14:1–7; Psalm 53:1–6; Isaiah 59:1–17)
CPDV What is next? Should we try to excel ahead of them? By no means! For we have accused all Jews and Greeks to be under sin, BSB BSB: What then? Are we any better? Not at all. For we have already made the charge that Jews and Greeks alike are all under sin.
CPDV just as it was written: “There is no one who is just. BSB BSB: As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one.

CPDV Their throat is an open sepulcher. With their tongues, they have been acting deceitfully. The venom of asps is under their lips. BSB BSB: “Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.” “The venom of vipers is on their lips.”
CPDV Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness. BSB BSB: “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”
CPDV Their feet are swift to shed blood. BSB BSB: “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
CPDV Grief and unhappiness are in their ways. BSB BSB: ruin and misery lie in their wake,
CPDV And the way of peace they have not known. BSB BSB: and the way of peace they have not known.”
CPDV There is no fear of God before their eyes.” BSB BSB: “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
CPDV But we know that whatever the law speaks, it speaks to those who are in the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the entire world may be subject to God. BSB BSB: Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.
CPDV For in his presence no flesh shall be justified by the works of the law. For knowledge of sin is through the law. BSB BSB: Therefore no one will be justified in His sight by works of the law. For the law merely brings awareness of sin.
Righteousness through Faith in Christ (Philippians 3:1–11)
