The Triumph of Faith 2 CPDV For through him we also have access by faith to this grace, in which we stand firm, and to glory, in the hope of the glory of the sons of God. BSB BSB: through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.
CPDV And not only that, but we also find glory in tribulation, knowing that tribulation exercises patience, BSB BSB: Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;
CPDV and patience leads to proving, yet truly proving leads to hope, BSB BSB: perseverance, character; and character, hope.
CPDV but hope is not unfounded, because the love of God is poured forth in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. BSB BSB: And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.
Christ’s Sacrifice for the Ungodly (John 3:1–21)
CPDV Now someone might barely be willing to die for the sake of justice, for example, perhaps someone might dare to die for the sake of a good man. BSB BSB: Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.
CPDV But God demonstrates his love for us in that, while we were yet sinners, at the proper time, BSB BSB: But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
CPDV Christ died for us. Therefore, having been justified now by his blood, all the more so shall we be saved from wrath through him. BSB BSB: Therefore, since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from wrath through Him!
CPDV For if we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, while we were still enemies, all the more so, having been reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. BSB BSB: For if, when we were enemies of God, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!
CPDV And not only that, but we also glory in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. BSB BSB: Not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Death in Adam, Life in Christ (Genesis 3:1–7)
CPDV For even before the law, sin was in the world, but sin was not imputed while the law did not exist. BSB BSB: For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law.
CPDV Yet death reigned from Adam until Moses, even in those who have not sinned, in the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a figure of him who was to come. BSB BSB: Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not sin in the way that Adam transgressed. He is a pattern of the One to come.
CPDV But the gift is not entirely like the offense. For though by the offense of one, many died, yet much more so, by the grace of one man, Jesus Christ, has the grace and gift of God abounded to many. BSB BSB: But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many!
CPDV And the sin through one is not entirely like the gift. For certainly, the judgment of one was unto condemnation, but the grace toward many offenses is unto justification. BSB BSB: Again, the gift is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment that followed one sin brought condemnation, but the gift that followed many trespasses brought justification.
CPDV For though, by the one offense, death reigned through one, yet so much more so shall those who receive an abundance of grace, both of the gift and of justice, reign in life through the one Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
CPDV For, just as through the disobedience of one man, many were established as sinners, so also through the obedience of one man, many shall be established as just. BSB BSB: For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
CPDV So then, just as sin has reigned unto death, so also may grace reign through justice unto eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. BSB BSB: so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
