The Vision of the Four Chariots 1 CPDV And I turned, and I lifted up my eyes and I saw. And behold, four four-horse chariots went out from the middle of two mountains. And the mountains were mountains of brass. BSB BSB: And again I lifted up my eyes and saw four chariots coming out from between two mountains—mountains of bronze.
2 CPDV In the first chariot were red horses, and in the second chariot were black horses, BSB BSB: The first chariot had red horses, the second black horses,
3 CPDV and in the third chariot were white horses, and in the fourth chariot were speckled horses, and they were strong. BSB BSB: the third white horses, and the fourth dappled horses—all of them strong.
4 CPDV And I responded and said to the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these, my lord?” BSB BSB: So I inquired of the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these, my lord?”
5 CPDV And the angel answered and said to me, “These are the four winds of heaven, which go forth to stand in the presence of the Sovereign of all the earth.” BSB BSB: And the angel told me, “These are the four spirits of heaven, going forth from their station before the Lord of all the earth.
6 CPDV The one with the black horses was departing into the land of the North, and the white went forth after them, and the speckled went forth towards the land of the South. BSB BSB: The one with the black horses is going toward the land of the north, the one with the white horses toward the west, and the one with the dappled horses toward the south.”
7 CPDV Yet those who were the most strong, went out, and sought to go and to roam quickly through all the earth. And he said, “Go, walk throughout the earth.” And they walked throughout the earth. BSB BSB: As the strong horses went out, they were eager to go and patrol the earth; and the LORD said, “Go and patrol the earth.” So they patrolled the earth.
8 CPDV And he called me and spoke with me, saying, “Behold, those who go forth to the land of the North, have quieted my spirit in the land of the North.” BSB BSB: Then the LORD summoned me and said, “Behold, those going to the land of the north have given rest to My Spirit in the land of the north.”
The Crown and the Temple 9 CPDV And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: BSB BSB: The word of the LORD also came to me, saying,
10 CPDV From those of the captivity, take from Heldai, and from Tobijah, and from Jedaiah. You will approach in that day, and you will go into the house of Josiah, the son of Zephaniah, who came from Babylon. BSB BSB: “Take an offering from the exiles—from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon—and go that same day to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah.
11 CPDV And you will take gold and silver; and you will make crowns, and you will set them on the head of Jesus the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. BSB BSB: Take silver and gold, make an ornate crown, and set it on the head of the high priest, Joshua son of Jehozadak.
12 CPDV And you will speak to him, saying: Thus says the Lord of hosts, saying: Behold, a man; the Rising is his name. And under him, he will rise up, and he will build a temple to the Lord. BSB BSB: And you are to tell him that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Here is a man whose name is the Branch, and He will branch out from His place and build the temple of the LORD.
13 CPDV And he will raise a temple to the Lord. And he will carry the glory, and he will sit and rule upon his throne. And he will be a priest upon his throne, and a counsel of peace will be between the two of them. BSB BSB: Yes, He will build the temple of the LORD; He will be clothed in splendor and will sit on His throne and rule. And He will be a priest on His throne, and there will be peaceful counsel between the two.’
14 CPDV And the crowns will be to Heldai, and Tobijah, and Jedaiah, as well as to Hem, the son of Zephaniah, as a memorial in the temple of the Lord. BSB BSB: The crown will reside in the temple of the LORD as a memorial to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and the gracious son of Zephaniah.
15 CPDV And those who are far away, will approach, and will build in the temple of the Lord. And you will know that the Lord of hosts sent me to you. Yet this shall be only if, when hearing, you will have heeded the voice of the Lord your God. BSB BSB: Even those far away will come and build the temple of the LORD, and you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me to you. This will happen if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.”
