The Sons of Israel (Genesis 35:21–26; Genesis 38:1–30)
1 DBY These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah, Issachar and Zebulun, BSB BSB: These were the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,
2 DBY Dan, Joseph and Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad and Asher. BSB BSB: Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
3 DBY The sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born to him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of Jehovah; and he slew him. BSB BSB: The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bath-shua the Canaanite. Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death.
4 DBY And Tamar his daughter-in-law bore him Pherez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five. BSB BSB: Tamar, Judah’s daughter-in-law, bore to him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.
5 DBY The sons of Pherez: Hezron and Hamul. BSB BSB: The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul.
6 DBY And the sons of Zerah: Zimri, and Ethan, and Heman, and Calcol, and Dara: five of them in all. BSB BSB: The sons of Zerah: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara—five in all.
7 DBY And the sons of Carmi: Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the accursed thing. BSB BSB: The son of Carmi: Achar, who brought trouble upon Israel by violating the ban on devoted things.
8 DBY And the sons of Ethan: Azariah. BSB BSB: The son of Ethan: Azariah.
9 DBY And the sons of Hezron, who were born to him: Jerahmeel, and Ram, and Chelubai. BSB BSB: The sons who were born to Hezron: Jerahmeel, Ram, and Caleb.
10 DBY And Ram begot Amminadab; and Amminadab begot Nahshon, prince of the children of Judah; BSB BSB: Ram was the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab was the father of Nahshon, a leader of the descendants of Judah.
11 DBY and Nahshon begot Salma, and Salma begot Boaz, BSB BSB: Nahshon was the father of Salmon, and Salmon was the father of Boaz.
12 DBY and Boaz begot Obed, and Obed begot Jesse; BSB BSB: Boaz was the father of Obed, and Obed was the father of Jesse.
13 DBY and Jesse begot his firstborn Eliab, and Abinadab the second, and Shimea the third, BSB BSB: Jesse was the father of Eliab his firstborn; Abinadab was born second, Shimea third,
14 DBY Nethaneel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, BSB BSB: Nethanel fourth, Raddai fifth,
15 DBY Ozem the sixth, David the seventh; BSB BSB: Ozem sixth, and David seventh.
16 DBY and their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. And the sons of Zeruiah: Abishai, and Joab, and Asahel, three. BSB BSB: Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. And the three sons of Zeruiah were Abishai, Joab, and Asahel.
17 DBY And Abigail bore Amasa; and the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmaelite. BSB BSB: Abigail was the mother of Amasa, whose father was Jether the Ishmaelite.
18 DBY And Caleb the son of Hezron had children by Azubah his wife, and by Jerioth: her sons are these: Jesher, and Shobab, and Ardon. BSB BSB: Caleb son of Hezron had children by his wife Azubah and by Jerioth. These were the sons of Azubah: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.
19 DBY And Azubah died, and Caleb took him Ephrath, and she bore him Hur. BSB BSB: When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, who bore to him Hur.
20 DBY And Hur begot Uri, and Uri begot Bezaleel. BSB BSB: Hur was the father of Uri, and Uri was the father of Bezalel.
21 DBY And afterwards Hezron went to the daughter of Machir, the father of Gilead, and he took her when he was sixty years old; and she bore him Segub. BSB BSB: Later, Hezron slept with the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead. He had married her when he was sixty years old, and she bore to him Segub.
22 DBY And Segub begot Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead; BSB BSB: Segub was the father of Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead.
23 DBY and Geshur and Aram took the villages of Jair from them, with Kenath and its dependent towns, sixty cities. All these were sons of Machir the father of Gilead. BSB BSB: But Geshur and Aram captured Havvoth-jair, along with Kenath and its sixty surrounding villages. All these were descendants of Machir the father of Gilead.
24 DBY And after the death of Hezron in Caleb-Ephratah, Abijah, Hezron's wife, bore him Ashhur, the father of Tekoa. BSB BSB: After Hezron died in Caleb-ephrathah, his wife Abijah bore to him Ashhur the father of Tekoa.
25 DBY And the sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron were: Ram the firstborn, and Bunah, and Oren, and Ozem, of Ahijah. BSB BSB: The sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron: Ram his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.
26 DBY And Jerahmeel had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam. BSB BSB: Jerahmeel had another wife named Atarah, who was the mother of Onam.
27 DBY And the sons of Ram, the firstborn of Jerahmeel, were Maaz, and Jamin, and Eker. BSB BSB: The sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel: Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.
28 DBY And the sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada. And the sons of Shammai: Nadab and Abishur. BSB BSB: The sons of Onam: Shammai and Jada. The sons of Shammai: Nadab and Abishur.
29 DBY And the name of the wife of Abishur was Abihail, and she bore him Ahban and Molid. BSB BSB: Abishur’s wife was named Abihail, and she bore to him Ahban and Molid.
30 DBY And the sons of Nadab: Seled and Appaim; and Seled died without sons. BSB BSB: The sons of Nadab: Seled and Appaim. Seled died without children.
31 DBY And the sons of Appaim: Jishi; and the sons of Jishi: Sheshan; and the sons of Sheshan: Ahlai. BSB BSB: The son of Appaim: Ishi. The son of Ishi: Sheshan. The son of Sheshan: Ahlai.
32 DBY And the sons of Jada, the brother of Shammai: Jether and Jonathan; and Jether died without sons. BSB BSB: The sons of Jada the brother of Shammai: Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without children.
33 DBY And the sons of Jonathan: Peleth and Zaza. These were the sons of Jerahmeel. BSB BSB: The sons of Jonathan: Peleth and Zaza. These were the descendants of Jerahmeel.
34 DBY And Sheshan had no sons, but daughters; and Sheshan had an Egyptian servant, whose name was Jarha; BSB BSB: Sheshan had no sons, but only daughters. He also had an Egyptian servant named Jarha.
35 DBY and Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his servant as wife, and she bore him Attai. BSB BSB: Sheshan gave his daughter in marriage to his servant Jarha, and she bore to him Attai.
36 DBY And Attai begot Nathan, and Nathan begot Zabad, BSB BSB: Attai was the father of Nathan, Nathan was the father of Zabad,
37 DBY and Zabad begot Ephlal, and Ephlal begot Obed, BSB BSB: Zabad was the father of Ephlal, Ephlal was the father of Obed,
38 DBY and Obed begot Jehu, and Jehu begot Azariah, BSB BSB: Obed was the father of Jehu, Jehu was the father of Azariah,
39 DBY and Azariah begot Helez, and Helez begot Elasah, BSB BSB: Azariah was the father of Helez, Helez was the father of Elasah,
40 DBY and Elasah begot Sismai, and Sismai begot Shallum, BSB BSB: Elasah was the father of Sismai, Sismai was the father of Shallum,
41 DBY and Shallum begot Jekamiah, and Jekamiah begot Elishama. BSB BSB: Shallum was the father of Jekamiah, and Jekamiah was the father of Elishama.
42 DBY And the sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel were Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph; and the sons of Mareshah the father of Hebron. BSB BSB: The sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel: Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph, and Mareshah his second son, who was the father of Hebron.
43 DBY And the sons of Hebron: Korah, and Tappuah, and Rekem, and Shema. BSB BSB: The sons of Hebron: Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema.
44 DBY And Shema begot Raham, the father of Jorkeam. And Rekem begot Shammai; BSB BSB: Shema was the father of Raham the father of Jorkeam, and Rekem was the father of Shammai.
45 DBY and the son of Shammai was Maon; and Maon was the father of Beth-zur. BSB BSB: The son of Shammai was Maon, and Maon was the father of Beth-zur.
46 DBY And Ephah, Caleb's concubine, bore Haran, and Moza, and Gazez; and Haran begot Gazez. BSB BSB: Caleb’s concubine Ephah was the mother of Haran, Moza, and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez.
47 DBY And the sons of Jehdai: Regem, and Jotham, and Geshan, and Pelet, and Ephah, and Shaaph. BSB BSB: The sons of Jahdai: Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.
48 DBY Maachah, Caleb's concubine, bore Sheber and Tirhanah; BSB BSB: Caleb’s concubine Maacah was the mother of Sheber and Tirhanah.
49 DBY and she bore Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbena and the father of Gibea. And the daughter of Caleb was Achsah. BSB BSB: She was also the mother of Shaaph father of Madmannah, and of Sheva father of Machbenah and Gibea. Caleb’s daughter was Acsah.
50 DBY These are the sons of Caleb. The sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephratah: Shobal the father of Kirjath-jearim, BSB BSB: These were the descendants of Caleb. The sons of Hur the firstborn of Ephrathah: Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim,
51 DBY Salma the father of Bethlehem, Hareph the father of Beth-gader. BSB BSB: Salma the father of Bethlehem, and Hareph the father of Beth-gader.
52 DBY And Shobal the father of Kirjath-jearim had sons: Haroeh, Hazi-Hammenuhoth. BSB BSB: These were the descendants of Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim: Haroeh, half the Manahathites,
53 DBY And the families of Kirjath-jearim were the Jithrites, and the Puthites, and the Shumathites, and the Mishraites; of them came the Zoreathites and the Eshtaolites. BSB BSB: and the clans of Kiriath-jearim—the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites. From these descended the Zorathites and Eshtaolites.
54 DBY The sons of Salma: Bethlehem, and the Netophathites. Atroth-Beth-Joab, and the Hazi-Hammana-hethites, the Zorites; BSB BSB: The descendants of Salma: Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, half the Manahathites, the Zorites,
55 DBY and the families of the scribes who dwelt at Jabez: the Tireathites, the Shimeathites, the Suchathites. These are the Kenites that came of Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab. BSB BSB: and the clans of the scribes who lived at Jabez—the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab.
