Spiritual Gifts 1 DBY But concerning spiritual manifestations , brethren, I do not wish you to be ignorant. BSB BSB: Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.
DBY Ye know that when ye were of the nations ye were led away to dumb idols, in whatever way ye might be led. BSB BSB: You know that when you were pagans, you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
DBY I give you therefore to know, that no one, speaking in the power of the Spirit of God, says, Curse on Jesus; and no one can say, Lord Jesus, unless in the power of the Holy Spirit. BSB BSB: Therefore I inform you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
DBY But there are distinctions of gifts, but the same Spirit; BSB BSB: There are different gifts, but the same Spirit.
DBY and there are distinctions of services, and the same Lord; BSB BSB: There are different ministries, but the same Lord.
DBY and there are distinctions of operations, but the same God who operates all things in all. BSB BSB: There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people.
DBY But to each the manifestation of the Spirit is given for profit. BSB BSB: Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
DBY and to a different one faith, in the power of the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healing in the power of the same Spirit; BSB BSB: to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
DBY and to another operations of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; and to a different one kinds of tongues; and to another interpretation of tongues. BSB BSB: to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
DBY But all these things operates the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each in particular according as he pleases. BSB BSB: All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines.
The Body of Christ 13 DBY For also in the power of one Spirit we have all been baptised into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bondmen or free, and have all been given to drink of one Spirit. BSB BSB: For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.
DBY For also the body is not one member but many. BSB BSB: For the body does not consist of one part, but of many.
DBY If the foot say, Because I am not a hand I am not of the body, is it on account of this not indeed of the body? BSB BSB: If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
DBY And if the ear say, Because I am not an eye I am not of the body, is it on account of this not indeed of the body? BSB BSB: And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
DBY If the whole body were an eye, where the hearing? if all hearing, where the smelling? BSB BSB: If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
DBY But now God has set the members, each one of them in the body, according as it has pleased him . BSB BSB: But in fact, God has arranged the members of the body, every one of them, according to His design.
DBY But if all were one member, where the body? BSB BSB: If they were all one part, where would the body be?
DBY But now the members are many, and the body one. BSB BSB: As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
DBY The eye cannot say to the hand, I have not need of thee; or again, the head to the feet, I have not need of you. BSB BSB: The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you.” Nor can the head say to the feet, “I do not need you.”
DBY But much rather, the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary; BSB BSB: On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
DBY and those parts of the body which we esteem to be the more void of honour, these we clothe with more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness; BSB BSB: and the parts we consider less honorable, we treat with greater honor. And our unpresentable parts are treated with special modesty,
DBY but our comely parts have not need. But God has tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to the part that lacked; BSB BSB: whereas our presentable parts have no such need. But God has composed the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
DBY that there might be no division in the body, but that the members might have the same concern one for another. BSB BSB: so that there should be no division in the body, but that its members should have mutual concern for one another.
DBY And if one member suffer, all the members suffer with it ; and if one member be glorified, all the members rejoice with it . BSB BSB: If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
The Greater Gifts 27 DBY Now ye are Christ's body, and members in particular. BSB BSB: Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.
DBY And God has set certain in the assembly: first, apostles; secondly, prophets; thirdly, teachers; then miraculous powers; then gifts of healings; helps; governments; kinds of tongues. BSB BSB: And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, and those with gifts of healing, helping, administration, and various tongues.
DBY Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all in possession of miraculous powers?BSB BSB: Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
DBY have all gifts of healings? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? BSB BSB: Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
DBY But desire earnestly the greater gifts, and yet shew I unto you a way of more surpassing excellence. BSB BSB: But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
