The Collection for the Saints (2 Corinthians 9:1–15)
DBY Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I directed the assemblies of Galatia, so do ye do also. BSB BSB: Now about the collection for the saints, you are to do as I directed the churches of Galatia:
DBY On the first of the week let each of you put by at home, laying up in whatever degree he may have prospered, that there may be no collections when I come. BSB BSB: On the first day of every week, each of you should set aside a portion of his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will be needed.
DBY And when I am arrived, whomsoever ye shall approve, these I will send with letters to carry your bounty to Jerusalem: BSB BSB: Then, on my arrival, I will send letters with those you recommend to carry your gift to Jerusalem.
DBY and if it be suitable that I also should go, they shall go with me. BSB BSB: And if it is advisable for me to go also, they can travel with me.
Paul’s Travel Plans (Romans 15:23–33)
DBY But I will come to you when I shall have gone through Macedonia; for I do go through Macedonia. BSB BSB: After I go through Macedonia, however, I will come to you; for I will be going through Macedonia.
DBY But perhaps I will stay with you, or even winter with you, that ye may set me forward wheresoever I may go. BSB BSB: Perhaps I will stay with you awhile, or even spend the winter, so that you can help me on my journey, wherever I go.
DBY For I will not see you now in passing, for I hope to remain a certain time with you, if the Lord permit. BSB BSB: For I do not want to see you now only in passing; I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits.
DBY But I remain in Ephesus until Pentecost. BSB BSB: But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost,
DBY For a great door is opened to me and an effectual one , and the adversaries many. BSB BSB: because a great door for effective work has opened to me, even though many oppose me.
Timothy and Apollos (Philippians 2:19–30)
DBY Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear; for he works the work of the Lord, even as I. BSB BSB: If Timothy comes, see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is doing the work of the Lord, just as I am.
DBY Let not therefore any one despise him; but set him forward in peace, that he may come to me; for I expect him with the brethren. BSB BSB: No one, then, should treat him with contempt. Send him on his way in peace so that he can return to me, for I am expecting him along with the brothers.
DBY Now concerning the brother Apollos, I begged him much that he would go to you with the brethren; but it was not at all his will to go now; but he will come when he shall have good opportunity. BSB BSB: Now about our brother Apollos: I strongly urged him to go to you with the brothers. He was not at all inclined to go now, but he will go when he has the opportunity.
Concluding Exhortations 13 DBY Be vigilant; stand fast in the faith; quit yourselves like men; be strong. BSB BSB: Be on the alert. Stand firm in the faith. Be men of courage. Be strong.
DBY Let all things ye do be done in love. BSB BSB: Do everything in love.
DBY But I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the first-fruits of Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the saints for service,) BSB BSB: You know that Stephanas and his household were the first converts in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints. Now I urge you, brothers,
DBY that ye should also be subject to such, and to every one joined in the work and labouring. BSB BSB: to submit to such as these, and to every fellow worker and laborer.
DBY But I rejoice in the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus; because they have supplied what was lacking on your part. BSB BSB: I am glad that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus have arrived, because they have supplied what was lacking from you.
DBY For they have refreshed my spirit and yours: own therefore such. BSB BSB: For they refreshed my spirit and yours as well. Show your appreciation, therefore, to such men.
