Immorality Rebuked (Leviticus 20:10–21; Proverbs 5:1–23)
DBY It is universally reported that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not even among the nations, so that one should have his father's wife. BSB BSB: It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is intolerable even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife.
DBY And ye are puffed up, and ye have not rather mourned, in order that he that has done this deed might be taken away out of the midst of you. BSB BSB: And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been stricken with grief and have removed from your fellowship the man who did this?
DBY For I, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged as present, BSB BSB: Although I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, and I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.
DBY to deliver, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (ye and my spirit being gathered together, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ), him that has so wrought this:BSB BSB: When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, along with the power of the Lord Jesus,
DBY to deliver him, I say, being such, to Satan for destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. BSB BSB: hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord.
DBY Your boasting is not good. Do ye not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? BSB BSB: Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven works through the whole batch of dough?
DBY so that let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with leaven of malice and wickedness, but with unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. BSB BSB: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with the old bread, leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and of truth.
Expel the Immoral Brother 9 DBY I have written to you in the epistle not to mix with fornicators; BSB BSB: I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.
DBY not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the avaricious and rapacious, or idolaters, since then ye should go out of the world. BSB BSB: I was not including the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.
DBY But now I have written to you, if any one called brother be fornicator, or avaricious, or idolater, or abusive, or a drunkard, or rapacious, not to mix with him ; with such a one not even to eat. BSB BSB: But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
DBY For what have I to do with judging those outside also? ye, do not ye judge them that are within? BSB BSB: What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?
DBY But those without God judges. Remove the wicked person from amongst yourselves. BSB BSB: God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”
