Lawsuits among Believers 1 DBY Dare any one of you, having a matter against another, prosecute his suit before the unjust, and not before the saints? BSB BSB: If any of you has a grievance against another, how dare he go to law before the unrighteous instead of before the saints!
DBY Do ye not then know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world is judged by you, are ye unworthy of the smallest judgments? BSB BSB: Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
DBY Do ye not know that we shall judge angels? and not then matters of this life? BSB BSB: Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
DBY If then ye have judgments as to things of this life, set those to judge who are little esteemed in the assembly. BSB BSB: So if you need to settle everyday matters, do you appoint as judges those of no standing in the church?
DBY I speak to you to put you to shame. Thus there is not a wise person among you, not even one, who shall be able to decide between his brethren! BSB BSB: I say this to your shame. Is there really no one among you wise enough to arbitrate between his brothers?
DBY But brother prosecutes his suit with brother, and that before unbelievers. BSB BSB: Instead, one brother goes to law against another, and this in front of unbelievers!
DBY Already indeed then it is altogether a fault in you that ye have suits between yourselves. Why do ye not rather suffer wrong? why are ye not rather defrauded? BSB BSB: The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means that you are thoroughly defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?
DBY But ye do wrong, and defraud, and this your brethren. BSB BSB: Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, even against your own brothers!
Members of Christ 9 DBY Do ye not know that unrighteous persons shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who make women of themselves, nor who abuse themselves with men, BSB BSB: Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts,
DBY nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor abusive persons, nor the rapacious, shall inherit the kingdom of God. BSB BSB: nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
DBY And these things were some of you; but ye have been washed, but ye have been sanctified, but ye have been justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. BSB BSB: And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
DBY All things are lawful to me, but all things do not profit; all things are lawful to me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. BSB BSB: “Everything is permissible for me,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be mastered by anything.
DBY Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats; but God will bring to nothing both it and them: but the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. BSB BSB: “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food,” but God will destroy them both. The body is not intended for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
DBY And God has both raised up the Lord, and will raise us up from among the dead by his power. BSB BSB: By His power God raised the Lord from the dead, and He will raise us also.
DBY Do ye not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then, taking the members of the Christ, make them members of a harlot? Far be the thought. BSB BSB: Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!
DBY Do ye not know that he that is joined to the harlot is one body? for the two, he says, shall be one flesh. BSB BSB: Or don’t you know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”
DBY But he that is joined to the Lord is one Spirit. BSB BSB: But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with Him in spirit.
The Temple of the Holy Spirit (Romans 12:1–8; 1 Corinthians 3:16–23)
DBY Flee fornication. Every sin which a man may practise is without the body, but he that commits fornication sins against his own body. BSB BSB: Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a man can commit is outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
DBY for ye have been bought with a price: glorify now then God in your body. BSB BSB: you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.
