Greetings to the Thessalonians (1 Thessalonians 1:1–10)
1 DBY Paul and Silvanus and Timotheus to the assembly of Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
2 DBY Grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 DBY We ought to thank God always for you, brethren, even as it is meet, because your faith increases exceedingly, and the love of each one of you all towards one another abounds; BSB BSB: We are obligated to thank God for you all the time, brothers, as is fitting, because your faith is growing more and more, and your love for one another is increasing.
4 DBY so that we ourselves make our boast in you in the assemblies of God for your endurance and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations, which ye are sustaining; BSB BSB: That is why we boast among God’s churches about your perseverance and faith in the face of all the persecution and affliction you are enduring.
Christ’s Coming 5 DBY a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that ye should be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for the sake of which ye also suffer; BSB BSB: All this is clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment. And so you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.
6 DBY if at least it is a righteous thing with God to render tribulation to those that trouble you, BSB BSB: After all, it is only right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,
7 DBY and to you that are troubled repose with us, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven, with the angels of his power, BSB BSB: and to grant relief to you who are oppressed and to us as well. This will take place when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels
8 DBY in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who know not God, and those who do not obey the glad tidings of our Lord Jesus Christ; BSB BSB: in blazing fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
10 DBY when he shall have come to be glorified in his saints, and wondered at in all that have believed, (for our testimony to you has been believed,) in that day. BSB BSB: on the day He comes to be glorified in His saints and regarded with wonder by all who have believed, including you who have believed our testimony.
11 DBY To which end we also pray always for you, that our God may count you worthy of the calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness and the work of faith with power, BSB BSB: To this end, we always pray for you, that our God will count you worthy of His calling, and that He will powerfully fulfill your every good desire and work of faith,
12 DBY so that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you and ye in him, according to the grace of our God, and of the Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
