The Man of Lawlessness 1 DBY Now we beg you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, BSB BSB: Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to Him, we ask you, brothers,
DBY that ye be not soon shaken in mind, nor troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as if it were by us, as that the day of the Lord is present. BSB BSB: not to be easily disconcerted or alarmed by any spirit or message or letter seeming to be from us, alleging that the Day of the Lord has already come.
DBY Let not any one deceive you in any manner, because it will not be unless the apostasy have first come, and the man of sin have been revealed, the son of perdition; BSB BSB: Let no one deceive you in any way, for it will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness—the son of destruction—is revealed.
DBY who opposes and exalts himself on high against all called God, or object of veneration; so that he himself sits down in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. BSB BSB: He will oppose and exalt himself above every so-called god or object of worship. So he will seat himself in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
DBY Do ye not remember that, being yet with you, I said these things to you? BSB BSB: Do you not remember that I told you these things while I was still with you?
DBY And now ye know that which restrains, that he should be revealed in his own time. BSB BSB: And you know what is now restraining him, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
DBY For the mystery of lawlessness already works; only there is he who restrains now until he be gone, BSB BSB: For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one who now restrains it will continue until he is taken out of the way.
DBY and then the lawless one shall be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus shall consume with the breath of his mouth, and shall annul by the appearing of his coming; BSB BSB: And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of His mouth and annihilate by the majesty of His arrival.
DBY whose coming is according to the working of Satan in all power and signs and wonders of falsehood, BSB BSB: The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the working of Satan, with every kind of power, sign, and false wonder,
DBY and in all deceit of unrighteousness to them that perish, because they have not received the love of the truth that they might be saved. BSB BSB: and with every wicked deception directed against those who are perishing, because they refused the love of the truth that would have saved them.
DBY And for this reason God sends to them a working of error, that they should believe what is false, BSB BSB: For this reason God will send them a powerful delusion so that they believe the lie,
DBY that all might be judged who have not believed the truth, but have found pleasure in unrighteousness. BSB BSB: in order that judgment may come upon all who have disbelieved the truth and delighted in wickedness.
Stand Firm 13 DBY But we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, that God has chosen you from the beginning to salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: BSB BSB: But we should always thank God for you, brothers who are loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved by the sanctification of the Spirit and by faith in the truth.
DBY whereto he has called you by our glad tidings, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: To this He called you through our gospel, so that you may share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
DBY But our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us, and given us eternal consolation and good hope by grace, BSB BSB: Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who by grace has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope,
DBY encourage your hearts, and establish you in every good work and word. BSB BSB: encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good word and deed.
