Setting Up the Tabernacle (Acts 7:44–47; Hebrews 9:1–10)
DBY And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
DBY On the day of the first month, on the first of the month, shalt thou set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. BSB BSB: “On the first day of the first month you are to set up the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting.
DBY And thou shalt put in it the ark of the testimony, and shalt cover the ark with the veil. BSB BSB: Put the ark of the Testimony in it and screen off the ark with the veil.
DBY And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it. And thou shalt bring in the candlestick and light its lamps. BSB BSB: Then bring in the table and set out its arrangement; bring in the lampstand as well, and set up its lamps.
DBY And thou shalt set the golden altar for the incense before the ark of the testimony; and hang up the curtain of the entrance to the tabernacle. BSB BSB: Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the Testimony, and hang the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
DBY And thou shalt set the altar of burnt-offering before the entrance of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. BSB BSB: Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting.
DBY And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar, and shalt put water in it. BSB BSB: And place the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it.
DBY And thou shalt fix the court round about, and hang up the curtain at the gate of the court. BSB BSB: Set up the surrounding courtyard and hang the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard.
DBY And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is in it, and shalt hallow it, and all its utensils; and it shall be holy. BSB BSB: Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it along with all its furnishings, and it shall be holy.
DBY And thou shalt anoint the altar of burnt-offering, and all its utensils; and thou shalt hallow the altar, and the altar shall be most holy. BSB BSB: Anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it shall be most holy.
DBY And thou shalt anoint the laver and its stand, and hallow it. BSB BSB: Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them.
DBY And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons near, at the entrance of the tent of meeting, and bathe them with water. BSB BSB: Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
DBY And thou shalt clothe Aaron with the holy garments, and anoint him, and hallow him, that he may serve me as priest. BSB BSB: And you are to clothe Aaron with the holy garments, anoint him, and consecrate him, so that he may serve Me as a priest.
DBY And thou shalt bring his sons near, and clothe them with vests. BSB BSB: Bring his sons forward and clothe them with tunics.
DBY And thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may serve me as priests. And their anointing shall be to them an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations. BSB BSB: Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so that they may also serve Me as priests. Their anointing will qualify them for a permanent priesthood throughout their generations.”
DBY And Moses did so: as Jehovah had commanded him, so did he. BSB BSB: Moses did everything just as the LORD had commanded him.
DBY And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first of the month, that the tabernacle was set up. BSB BSB: So the tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month of the second year.
DBY And Moses set up the tabernacle, and put in its bases, and fixed its boards, and put in its bars, and set up its pillars. BSB BSB: When Moses set up the tabernacle, he laid its bases, positioned its frames, inserted its crossbars, and set up its posts.
DBY And he spread the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above over it; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering over the tent, just as the LORD had commanded him.
DBY And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and put the staves in the ark, and put the mercy-seat above on the ark. BSB BSB: Moses took the Testimony and placed it in the ark, attaching the poles to the ark; and he set the mercy seat atop the ark.
DBY And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and hung up the veil of separation, and covered the ark of the testimony; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle, put up the veil for the screen, and shielded off the ark of the Testimony, just as the LORD had commanded him.
DBY And he put the table in the tent of meeting, on the side of the tabernacle northward, outside the veil, BSB BSB: Moses placed the table in the Tent of Meeting on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil.
DBY and arranged the bread in order upon it before Jehovah; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: He arranged the bread on it before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
DBY And he put the candlestick in the tent of meeting, opposite to the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward. BSB BSB: He also placed the lampstand in the Tent of Meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle
DBY And he lighted the lamps before Jehovah; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: and set up the lamps before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
DBY And he put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the veil. BSB BSB: Moses placed the gold altar in the Tent of Meeting, in front of the veil,
DBY And he burnt on it fragrant incense; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: and he burned fragrant incense on it, just as the LORD had commanded him.
DBY And he hung up the curtain of the entrance to the tabernacle. BSB BSB: Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
DBY And he put the altar of burnt-offering at the entrance to the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered on it the burnt-offering and the oblation; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: He placed the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the grain offering, just as the LORD had commanded him.
DBY And he set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it for washing. BSB BSB: He placed the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing;
DBY And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet out of it: BSB BSB: and from it Moses, Aaron, and his sons washed their hands and feet.
DBY when they went into the tent of meeting, and when they drew near to the altar, they washed; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: They washed whenever they entered the Tent of Meeting or approached the altar, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
DBY And he set up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and hung up the curtain of the gate of the court. And so Moses finished the work. BSB BSB: And Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and the altar, and he hung the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard. So Moses finished the work.
The Cloud and the Glory (Numbers 9:15–23)
DBY And the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle. BSB BSB: Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
DBY And Moses could not enter into the tent of meeting, for the cloud abode on it, and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle. BSB BSB: Moses was unable to enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
DBY And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel journeyed in all their journeys. BSB BSB: Whenever the cloud was lifted from above the tabernacle, the Israelites would set out through all the stages of their journey.
DBY And if the cloud were not taken up, then they did not journey until the day that it was taken up. BSB BSB: If the cloud was not lifted, they would not set out until the day it was taken up.
DBY For the cloud of Jehovah was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, before the eyes of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. BSB BSB: For the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel through all their journeys.
