Laws for Burnt Offerings (Leviticus 6:8–13)
DBY And Jehovah called to Moses and spoke to him out of the tent of meeting, saying, BSB BSB: Then the LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying,
DBY Speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them, When any man of you presenteth an offering to Jehovah, ye shall present your offering of the cattle, of the herd and of the flock. BSB BSB: “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When any of you brings an offering to the LORD, you may bring as your offering an animal from the herd or the flock.
DBY If his offering be a burnt-offering of the herd, he shall present it a male without blemish: at the entrance of the tent of meeting shall he present it, for his acceptance before Jehovah. BSB BSB: If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he is to present an unblemished male. He must bring it to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting for its acceptance before the LORD.
DBY And he shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt-offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. BSB BSB: He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, so it can be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him.
DBY And he shall slaughter the bullock before Jehovah; and Aaron's sons, the priests, shall present the blood and sprinkle the blood round about on the altar that is at the entrance of the tent of meeting. BSB BSB: And he shall slaughter the young bull before the LORD, and Aaron’s sons the priests are to present the blood and splatter it on all sides of the altar at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
DBY And he shall flay the burnt-offering, and cut it up into its pieces. BSB BSB: Next, he is to skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces.
DBY And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar, and lay wood in order on the fire; BSB BSB: The sons of Aaron the priest shall put a fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire.
DBY and Aaron's sons, the priests, shall lay the pieces, the head, and the fat, in order on the wood that is on the fire which is on the altar; BSB BSB: Then Aaron’s sons the priests are to arrange the pieces, including the head and the fat, atop the burning wood on the altar.
DBY but its inwards and its legs shall he wash in water; and the priest shall burn all on the altar, a burnt-offering, an offering by fire to Jehovah of a sweet odour. BSB BSB: The entrails and legs must be washed with water, and the priest shall burn all of it on the altar as a burnt offering, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
DBY And if his offering be of the flock, of the sheep or of the goats, for a burnt-offering, he shall present it a male without blemish. BSB BSB: If, however, one’s offering is a burnt offering from the flock—from the sheep or goats—he is to present an unblemished male.
DBY And he shall slaughter it on the side of the altar northward before Jehovah; and Aaron's sons, the priests, shall sprinkle its blood on the altar round about. BSB BSB: He shall slaughter it on the north side of the altar before the LORD, and Aaron’s sons the priests are to splatter its blood against the altar on all sides.
DBY And he shall cut it into its pieces, and its head, and its fat; and the priest shall lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire which is on the altar; BSB BSB: He is to cut the animal into pieces, and the priest shall arrange them, including the head and fat, atop the burning wood that is on the altar.
DBY but the inwards and the legs shall he wash with water; and the priest shall present it all, and burn it on the altar: it is a burnt-offering, an offering by fire to Jehovah of a sweet odour. BSB BSB: The entrails and legs must be washed with water, and the priest shall present all of it and burn it on the altar; it is a burnt offering, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
DBY And if his offering to Jehovah be a burnt-offering of fowls, then he shall present his offering of turtle-doves, or of young pigeons. BSB BSB: If, instead, one’s offering to the LORD is a burnt offering of birds, he is to present a turtledove or a young pigeon.
DBY And the priest shall bring it near to the altar and pinch off its head and burn it on the altar; and its blood shall be pressed out at the side of the altar. BSB BSB: Then the priest shall bring it to the altar, twist off its head, and burn it on the altar; its blood should be drained out on the side of the altar.
DBY And he shall remove its crop with its feathers, and cast it beside the altar on the east, into the place of the ashes; BSB BSB: And he is to remove the crop with its contents and throw it to the east side of the altar, in the place for ashes.
DBY and he shall split it open at its wings, but shall not divide it asunder; and the priest shall burn it on the altar on the wood that is on the fire: it is a burnt-offering, an offering by fire to Jehovah of a sweet odour. BSB BSB: He shall tear it open by its wings, without dividing the bird completely. And the priest is to burn it on the altar atop the burning wood. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
