DBY but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. BSB BSB: Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.
DBY And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has drawn nigh. BSB BSB: As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’
DBY Heal the infirm, raise the dead , cleanse lepers, cast out demons: ye have received gratuitously, give gratuitously. BSB BSB: Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
DBY Do not provide yourselves with gold, or silver, or brass, for your belts, BSB BSB: Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts.
DBY nor scrip for the way, nor two body coats, nor sandals, nor a staff: for the workman is worthy of his nourishment. BSB BSB: Take no bag for the road, or second tunic, or sandals, or staff; for the worker is worthy of his provisions.
DBY But into whatsoever city or village ye enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and there remain till ye go forth. BSB BSB: Whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy there and stay at his house until you move on.
DBY And as ye enter into a house salute it. BSB BSB: As you enter the home, greet its occupants.
DBY And if the house indeed be worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. BSB BSB: If the home is worthy, let your peace rest on it, but if it is not, let your peace return to you.
DBY And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, as ye go forth out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. BSB BSB: And if anyone will not welcome you or heed your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.
DBY Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in judgment-day than for that city. BSB BSB: Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.
Sheep among Wolves (2 Timothy 1:3–12)
DBY Behold, I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves; be therefore prudent as the serpents, and guileless as the doves. BSB BSB: Behold, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
DBY But beware of men; for they will deliver you up to sanhedrims, and scourge you in their synagogues; BSB BSB: But beware of men, for they will hand you over to their councils and flog you in their synagogues.
DBY and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations. BSB BSB: On My account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.
DBY But when they deliver you up, be not careful how or what ye shall speak; for it shall be given to you in that hour what ye shall speak. BSB BSB: But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say.
DBY For ye are not the speakers, but the Spirit of your Father which speaks in you. BSB BSB: For it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
DBY But brother shall deliver up brother to death, and father child; and children shall rise up against parents and shall put them to death; BSB BSB: Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rise against their parents and have them put to death.
DBY and ye shall be hated of all on account of my name. But he that has endured to the end, he shall be saved. BSB BSB: You will be hated by everyone because of My name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.
DBY But when they persecute you in this city, flee to the other; for verily I say to you, Ye shall not have completed the cities of Israel until the Son of man be come. BSB BSB: When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next. Truly I tell you, you will not reach all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
DBY The disciple is not above his teacher, nor the bondman above his lord. BSB BSB: A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.
DBY It is sufficient for the disciple that he should become as his teacher, and the bondman as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household?BSB BSB: It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!
Fear God Alone (Luke 12:4–7)
DBY Fear them not therefore; for there is nothing covered which shall not be revealed, and secret which shall not be known. BSB BSB: So do not be afraid of them. For there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, and nothing hidden that will not be made known.
DBY What I say to you in darkness speak in the light, and what ye hear in the ear preach upon the houses. BSB BSB: What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the housetops.
DBY but of you even the hairs of the head are all numbered. BSB BSB: And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
DBY Fear not therefore; ye are better than many sparrows. BSB BSB: So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Confessing Christ (Luke 12:8–12)
DBY But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in the heavens. BSB BSB: But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven.
Not Peace but a Sword (Micah 7:1–6; Luke 12:49–53)
DBY For I have come to set a man at variance with his father, and the daughter with her mother, and the daughter-in-law with her mother-in-law; BSB BSB: For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
DBY and they of his household shall be a man's enemies. BSB BSB: A man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’
DBY He that finds his life shall lose it, and he who has lost his life for my sake shall find it. BSB BSB: Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
The Reward of Service (2 Kings 4:8–17)
DBY He that receives you receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me. BSB BSB: He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives the One who sent Me.
DBY He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man's reward. BSB BSB: Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward.
DBY And whosoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. BSB BSB: And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”
