Living Sacrifices (1 Corinthians 3:16–23; 1 Corinthians 6:18–20)
DBY I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the compassions of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your intelligent service. BSB BSB: Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
DBY And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. BSB BSB: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
DBY For I say, through the grace which has been given to me, to every one that is among you, not to have high thoughts above what he should think; but to think so as to be wise, as God has dealt to each a measure of faith. BSB BSB: For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but think of yourself with sober judgment, according to the measure of faith God has given you.
DBY For, as in one body we have many members, but all the members have not the same office; BSB BSB: Just as each of us has one body with many members, and not all members have the same function,
DBY thus we, being many, are one body in Christ, and each one members one of the other. BSB BSB: so in Christ we who are many are one body, and each member belongs to one another.
DBY But having different gifts, according to the grace which has been given to us, whether it be prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; BSB BSB: We have different gifts according to the grace given us. If one’s gift is prophecy, let him use it in proportion to his faith;
DBY or service, let us occupy ourselves in service; or he that teaches, in teaching; BSB BSB: if it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;
DBY or he that exhorts, in exhortation; he that gives, in simplicity; he that leads, with diligence; he that shews mercy, with cheerfulness. BSB BSB: if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is giving, let him give generously; if it is leading, let him lead with diligence; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
Love, Zeal, Hope, Hospitality (John 13:31–35; 1 John 3:11–24)
DBY Let love be unfeigned; abhorring evil; cleaving to good: BSB BSB: Love must be sincere. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good.
DBY as to brotherly love, kindly affectioned towards one another: as to honour, each taking the lead in paying it to the other: BSB BSB: Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another.
DBY as to diligent zealousness, not slothful; in spirit fervent; serving the Lord. BSB BSB: Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
DBY As regards hope, rejoicing: as regards tribulation, enduring: as regards prayer, persevering: BSB BSB: Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, persistent in prayer.
DBY distributing to the necessities of the saints; given to hospitality. BSB BSB: Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Forgiveness (Matthew 18:21–35)
DBY Rejoice with those that rejoice, weep with those that weep. BSB BSB: Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.
DBY Have the same respect one for another, not minding high things, but going along with the lowly: be not wise in your own eyes: BSB BSB: Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited.
DBY if possible, as far as depends on you, living in peace with all men; BSB BSB: If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone.
DBY If therefore thine enemy should hunger, feed him; if he should thirst, give him drink; for, so doing, thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head. BSB BSB: On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
DBY Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. BSB BSB: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
