God’s Righteous Judgment (Psalm 75:1–10)
DBY Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, every one who judgest, for in that in which thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. BSB BSB: You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on another. For on whatever grounds you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
DBY But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth upon those who do such things. BSB BSB: And we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.
DBY And thinkest thou this, O man, who judgest those that do such things, and practisest them thyself , that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? BSB BSB: So when you, O man, pass judgment on others, yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment?
DBY or despisest thou the riches of his goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads thee to repentance? BSB BSB: Or do you disregard the riches of His kindness, tolerance, and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?
DBY but, according to thy hardness and impenitent heart, treasurest up to thyself wrath, in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, BSB BSB: But because of your hard and unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.
DBY to them who, in patient continuance of good works, seek for glory and honour and incorruptibility, life eternal. BSB BSB: To those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life.
DBY But to those that are contentious, and are disobedient to the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there shall be wrath and indignation, BSB BSB: But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger.
DBY tribulation and distress, on every soul of man that works evil, both of Jew first, and of Greek; BSB BSB: There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil, first for the Jew, then for the Greek;
DBY but glory and honour and peace to every one that works good, both to Jew first and to Greek: BSB BSB: but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, first for the Jew, then for the Greek.
DBY for there is no acceptance of persons with God. BSB BSB: For God does not show favoritism.
DBY For as many as have sinned without law shall perish also without law; and as many as have sinned under law shall be judged by law, BSB BSB: All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.
DBY (for not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. BSB BSB: For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but it is the doers of the law who will be declared righteous.
DBY For when those of the nations, which have no law, practise by nature the things of the law, these, having no law, are a law to themselves; BSB BSB: Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 DBY who shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts accusing or else excusing themselves between themselves;) BSB BSB: So they show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts either accusing or defending them
DBY in the day when God shall judge the secrets of men, according to my glad tidings, by Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Christ Jesus, as proclaimed by my gospel.
The Jews and the Law 17 DBY But if thou art named a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast in God, BSB BSB: Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God;
DBY and knowest the will, and discerningly approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law; BSB BSB: if you know His will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law;
DBY and hast confidence that thou thyself art a leader of the blind, a light of those who are in darkness, BSB BSB: if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those in darkness,
DBY an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and of truth in the law: BSB BSB: an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth—
DBY thou then that teachest another, dost thou not teach thyself? thou that preachest not to steal, dost thou steal? BSB BSB: you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?
DBY thou that sayest man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? BSB BSB: You who forbid adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
DBY thou who boastest in law, dost thou by transgression of the law dishonour God? BSB BSB: You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?
DBY For the name of God is blasphemed on your account among the nations, according as it is written. BSB BSB: As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”
DBY For circumcision indeed profits if thou keep the law; but if thou be a law-transgressor, thy circumcision is become uncircumcision. BSB BSB: Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
DBY If therefore the uncircumcision keep the requirements of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be reckoned for circumcision, BSB BSB: If a man who is not circumcised keeps the requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision?
DBY and uncircumcision by nature, fulfilling the law, judge thee, who, with letter and circumcision, art a law-transgressor? BSB BSB: The one who is physically uncircumcised yet keeps the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker.
DBY For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither that circumcision which is outward in flesh; BSB BSB: A man is not a Jew because he is one outwardly, nor is circumcision only outward and physical.
DBY but he is a Jew who is so inwardly; and circumcision, of the heart, in spirit, not in letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. BSB BSB: No, a man is a Jew because he is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise does not come from men, but from God.
