Roles in Worship 1 DRA Be ye followers of me, as I also am of Christ. BSB BSB: You are to imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.
DRA Now I praise you, brethren, that in all things you are mindful of me: and keep my ordinances as I have delivered them to you. BSB BSB: Now I commend you for remembering me in everything and for maintaining the traditions, just as I passed them on to you.
DRA But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. BSB BSB: But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
DRA Every man praying or prophesying with his head covered, disgraceth his head. BSB BSB: Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.
DRA For if a woman be not covered, let her be shorn. But if it be a shame to a woman to be shorn or made bald, let her cover her head. BSB BSB: If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off. And if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.
DRA The man indeed ought not to cover his head, because he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of the man. BSB BSB: A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
DRA For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man. BSB BSB: For man did not come from woman, but woman from man.
DRA For the man was not created for the woman, but the woman for the man. BSB BSB: Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.
DRA Therefore ought the woman to have a power over her head, because of the angels. BSB BSB: For this reason a woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the angels.
DRA But yet neither is the man without the woman, nor the woman without the man, in the Lord. BSB BSB: In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.
DRA For as the woman is of the man, so also is the man by the woman: but all things of God. BSB BSB: For just as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.
DRA You yourselves judge: doth it become a woman, to pray unto God uncovered? BSB BSB: Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
DRA Doth not even nature itself teach you, that a man indeed, if he nourish his hair, it is a shame unto him? BSB BSB: Doesn’t nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,
DRA But if a woman nourish her hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering. BSB BSB: but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.
DRA But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor the church of God. BSB BSB: If anyone is inclined to dispute this, we have no other practice, nor do the churches of God.
Sharing in the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:20–30; Mark 14:17–26; Luke 22:14–23)
DRA Now this I ordain: not praising you, that you come together not for the better, but for the worse. BSB BSB: In the following instructions I have no praise to offer, because your gatherings do more harm than good.
DRA For first of all I hear that when you come together in the church, there are schisms among you; and in part I believe it. BSB BSB: First of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.
DRA For there must be also heresies: that they also, who are approved, may be made manifest among you. BSB BSB: And indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved.
DRA When you come therefore together into one place, it is not now to eat the Lord’s supper. BSB BSB: Now then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat.
DRA For every one taketh before his own supper to eat. And one indeed is hungry and another is drunk. BSB BSB: For as you eat, each of you goes ahead without sharing his meal. While one remains hungry, another gets drunk.
DRA What, have you not houses to eat and to drink in? Or despise ye the church of God; and put them to shame that have not? What shall I say to you? Do I praise you? In this I praise you not. BSB BSB: Don’t you have your own homes in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What can I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? No, I will not!
DRA For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread. BSB BSB: For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread,
DRA And giving thanks, broke, and said: Take ye, and eat: this is my body, which shall be delivered for you: this do for the commemoration of me. BSB BSB: and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
DRA In like manner also the chalice, after he had supped, saying: This chalice is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as often as you shall drink, for the commemoration of me. BSB BSB: In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
DRA For as often as you shall eat this bread, and drink the chalice, you shall shew the death of the Lord, until he come. BSB BSB: For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
DRA Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord. BSB BSB: Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
DRA But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of the chalice. BSB BSB: Each one must examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.
DRA For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord. BSB BSB: For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.
DRA Therefore are there many infirm and weak among you, and many sleep. BSB BSB: That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
DRA But if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. BSB BSB: Now if we judged ourselves properly, we would not come under judgment.
DRA But whilst we are judged, we are chastised by the Lord, that we be not condemned with this world. BSB BSB: But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
DRA Wherefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. BSB BSB: So, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.
DRA If any man be hungry, let him eat at home; that you come not together unto judgment. And the rest I will set in order, when I come. BSB BSB: If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you come together it will not result in judgment. And when I come, I will give instructions about the remaining matters.
