Spiritual Gifts 1 DRA Now concerning spiritual things, my brethren, I would not have you ignorant. BSB BSB: Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.
DRA You know that when you were heathens, you went to dumb idols, according as you were led. BSB BSB: You know that when you were pagans, you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
DRA Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man, speaking by the Spirit of God, saith Anathema to Jesus. And no man can say the Lord Jesus, but by the Holy Ghost. BSB BSB: Therefore I inform you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
DRA Now there are diversities of graces, but the same Spirit; BSB BSB: There are different gifts, but the same Spirit.
DRA And there are diversities of ministries, but the same Lord; BSB BSB: There are different ministries, but the same Lord.
DRA And there are diversities of operations, but the same God, who worketh all in all. BSB BSB: There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people.
DRA And the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man unto profit. BSB BSB: Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
DRA To another, faith in the same spirit; to another, the grace of healing in one Spirit; BSB BSB: to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
DRA To another, the working of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, the discerning of spirits; to another, diverse kinds of tongues; to another, interpretation of speeches. BSB BSB: to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
DRA But all these things one and the same Spirit worketh, dividing to every one according as he will. BSB BSB: All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines.
The Body of Christ 13 DRA For in one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, whether bond or free; and in one Spirit we have all been made to drink. BSB BSB: For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.
DRA For the body also is not one member, but many. BSB BSB: For the body does not consist of one part, but of many.
DRA If the foot should say, because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? BSB BSB: If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
DRA And if the ear should say, because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? BSB BSB: And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
DRA If the whole body were the eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? BSB BSB: If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
DRA But now God hath set the members every one of them in the body as it hath pleased him. BSB BSB: But in fact, God has arranged the members of the body, every one of them, according to His design.
DRA And if they all were one member, where would be the body? BSB BSB: If they were all one part, where would the body be?
DRA But now there are many members indeed, yet one body. BSB BSB: As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
DRA And the eye cannot say to the hand: I need not thy help; nor again the head to the feet: I have no need of you. BSB BSB: The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you.” Nor can the head say to the feet, “I do not need you.”
DRA Yea, much more those that seem to be the more feeble members of the body, are more necessary. BSB BSB: On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
DRA And such as we think to be the less honourable members of the body, about these we put more abundant honour; and those that are our uncomely parts, have more abundant comeliness. BSB BSB: and the parts we consider less honorable, we treat with greater honor. And our unpresentable parts are treated with special modesty,
DRA But our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, giving to that which wanted the more abundant honour, BSB BSB: whereas our presentable parts have no such need. But God has composed the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
DRA That there might be no schism in the body; but the members might be mutually careful one for another. BSB BSB: so that there should be no division in the body, but that its members should have mutual concern for one another.
DRA And if one member suffer any thing, all the members suffer with it; or if one member glory, all the members rejoice with it. BSB BSB: If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
The Greater Gifts 27 DRA Now you are the body of Christ, and members of member. BSB BSB: Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.
DRA And God indeed hath set some in the church; first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly doctors; after that miracles; then the graces of healing, helps, governments, kinds of tongues, interpretations of speeches. BSB BSB: And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, and those with gifts of healing, helping, administration, and various tongues.
DRA Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all doctors? BSB BSB: Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
DRA Are all workers of miracles? Have all the grace of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? BSB BSB: Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
DRA But be zealous for the better gifts. And I shew unto you yet a more excellent way. BSB BSB: But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
