Immorality Rebuked (Leviticus 20:10–21; Proverbs 5:1–23)
DRA It is absolutely heard, that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as the like is not among the heathens; that one should have his father’s wife. BSB BSB: It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is intolerable even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife.
DRA And you are puffed up; and have not rather mourned, that he might be taken away from among you, that hath done this deed. BSB BSB: And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been stricken with grief and have removed from your fellowship the man who did this?
DRA I indeed, absent in body, but present in spirit, have already judged, as though I were present, him that hath so done, BSB BSB: Although I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, and I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.
DRA In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, you being gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus; BSB BSB: When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, along with the power of the Lord Jesus,
DRA To deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord.
DRA Your glorying is not good. Know you not that a little leaven corrupteth the whole lump? BSB BSB: Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven works through the whole batch of dough?
DRA Therefore let us feast, not with the old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. BSB BSB: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with the old bread, leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and of truth.
Expel the Immoral Brother 9 DRA I wrote to you in an epistle, not to keep company with fornicators. BSB BSB: I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.
DRA I mean not with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or the extortioners, or the servers of idols; otherwise you must needs go out of this world. BSB BSB: I was not including the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.
DRA But now I have written to you, not to keep company, if any man that is named a brother, be a fornicator, or covetous, or a server of idols, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner: with such a one, not so much as to eat. BSB BSB: But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
DRA For what have I to do to judge them that are without? Do not you judge them that are within? BSB BSB: What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?
DRA For them that are without, God will judge. Put away the evil one from among yourselves. BSB BSB: God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”
