Lawsuits among Believers 1 DRA Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to be judged before the unjust, and not before the saints? BSB BSB: If any of you has a grievance against another, how dare he go to law before the unrighteous instead of before the saints!
DRA Know you not that the saints shall judge this world? And if the world shall be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? BSB BSB: Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
DRA Know you not that we shall judge angels? how much more things of this world? BSB BSB: Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
DRA If therefore you have judgments of things pertaining to this world, set them to judge, who are the most despised in the church. BSB BSB: So if you need to settle everyday matters, do you appoint as judges those of no standing in the church?
DRA I speak to your shame. Is it so that there is not among you any one wise man, that is able to judge between his brethren? BSB BSB: I say this to your shame. Is there really no one among you wise enough to arbitrate between his brothers?
DRA But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before unbelievers. BSB BSB: Instead, one brother goes to law against another, and this in front of unbelievers!
DRA Already indeed there is plainly a fault among you, that you have lawsuits one with another. Why do you not rather take wrong? Why do you not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? BSB BSB: The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means that you are thoroughly defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?
DRA But you do wrong and defraud, and that to your brethren. BSB BSB: Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, even against your own brothers!
Members of Christ 9 DRA Know you not that the unjust shall not possess the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, BSB BSB: Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts,
DRA Nor the effeminate, nor liers with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor railers, nor extortioners, shall possess the kingdom of God. BSB BSB: nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
DRA And such some of you were; but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Spirit of our God. BSB BSB: And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
DRA All things are lawful to me, but all things are not expedient. All things are lawful to me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. BSB BSB: “Everything is permissible for me,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be mastered by anything.
DRA Meat for the belly, and the belly for the meats; but God shall destroy both it and them: but the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. BSB BSB: “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food,” but God will destroy them both. The body is not intended for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
DRA Now God hath both raised up the Lord, and will raise us up also by his power. BSB BSB: By His power God raised the Lord from the dead, and He will raise us also.
DRA Know you not that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. BSB BSB: Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!
DRA Or know you not, that he who is joined to a harlot, is made one body? For they shall be, saith he, two in one flesh. BSB BSB: Or don’t you know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”
DRA But he who is joined to the Lord, is one spirit. BSB BSB: But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with Him in spirit.
The Temple of the Holy Spirit (Romans 12:1–8; 1 Corinthians 3:16–23)
DRA Fly fornication. Every sin that a man doth, is without the body; but he that committeth fornication, sinneth against his own body. BSB BSB: Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a man can commit is outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
DRA For you are bought with a great price. Glorify and bear God in your body. BSB BSB: you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.
