Living for God’s Glory (1 Corinthians 10:23–33)
DRA Christ therefore having suffered in the flesh, be you also armed with the same thought: for he that hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sins: BSB BSB: Therefore, since Christ suffered in His body, arm yourselves with the same resolve, because anyone who has suffered in his body is done with sin.
DRA That now he may live the rest of his time in the flesh, not after the desires of men, but according to the will of God. BSB BSB: Consequently, he does not live out his remaining time on earth for human passions, but for the will of God.
DRA For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and unlawful worshipping of idols. BSB BSB: For you have spent enough time in the past carrying out the same desires as the Gentiles: living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and detestable idolatry.
DRA Wherein they think it strange, that you run not with them into the same confusion of riotousness, speaking evil of you. BSB BSB: Because of this, they consider it strange of you not to plunge with them into the same flood of reckless indiscretion, and they heap abuse on you.
DRA Who shall render account to him, who is ready to judge the living and the dead. BSB BSB: But they will have to give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
DRA But the end of all is at hand. Be prudent therefore, and watch in prayers. BSB BSB: The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear-minded and sober, so that you can pray.
DRA But before all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves: for charity covereth a multitude of sins. BSB BSB: Above all, love one another deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
DRA Using hospitality one towards another, without murmuring, BSB BSB: Show hospitality to one another without complaining.
DRA As every man hath received grace, ministering the same one to another: as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. BSB BSB: As good stewards of the manifold grace of God, each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve one another.
DRA If any man speak, let him speak, as the words of God. If any man minister, let him do it, as of the power, which God administereth: that in all things God may be honoured through Jesus Christ: to whom is glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen. BSB BSB: If anyone speaks, he should speak as one conveying the words of God. If anyone serves, he should serve with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
Suffering as Christians 12 DRA Dearly beloved, think not strange the burning heat which is to try you, as if some new thing happened to you; BSB BSB: Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you, as though something strange were happening to you.
DRA But if you partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice that when his glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. BSB BSB: But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed at the revelation of His glory.
DRA If you be reproached for the name of Christ, you shall be blessed: for that which is of the honour, glory, and power of God, and that which is his Spirit, resteth upon you. BSB BSB: If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
DRA But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a railer, or a coveter of other men’s things. BSB BSB: Indeed, none of you should suffer as a murderer or thief or wrongdoer, or even as a meddler.
DRA But if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. BSB BSB: But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear that name.
DRA For the time is, that judgment should begin at the house of God. And if first at us, what shall be the end of them that believe not the gospel of God? BSB BSB: For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?
DRA And if the just man shall scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? BSB BSB: And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
DRA Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God, commend their souls in good deeds to the faithful Creator. BSB BSB: So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should entrust their souls to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
