A Greeting from Peter (1 Peter 1:1–2)
DRA Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained equal faith with us in the justice of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
DRA Grace to you and peace be accomplished in the knowledge of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord: BSB BSB: Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Partakers of the Divine Nature 3 DRA As all things of his divine power which appertain to life and godliness, are given us, through the knowledge of him who hath called us by his own proper glory and virtue. BSB BSB: His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
DRA And you, employing all care, minister in your faith, virtue; and in virtue, knowledge; BSB BSB: For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge;
DRA And in knowledge, abstinence; and in abstinence, patience; and in patience, godliness; BSB BSB: and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
DRA And in godliness, love of brotherhood; and in love of brotherhood, charity. BSB BSB: and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
DRA For if these things be with you and abound, they will make you to be neither empty nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: For if you possess these qualities and continue to grow in them, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
DRA For he that hath not these things with him, is blind, and groping, having forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. BSB BSB: But whoever lacks these traits is nearsighted to the point of blindness, having forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
DRA Wherefore, brethren, labour the more, that by good works you may make sure your calling and election. For doing these things, you shall not sin at any time. BSB BSB: Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure. For if you practice these things you will never stumble,
DRA For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
DRA For which cause I will begin to put you always in remembrance of these things: though indeed you know them, and are confirmed in the present truth. BSB BSB: Therefore I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you now have.
DRA But I think it meet as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance. BSB BSB: I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of my body,
DRA Being assured that the laying away of this my tabernacle is at hand, according as our Lord Jesus Christ also hath signified to me. BSB BSB: because I know that this tent will soon be laid aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
DRA And I will endeavour, that you frequently have after my decease, whereby you may keep a memory of these things. BSB BSB: And I will make every effort to ensure that after my departure, you will be able to recall these things at all times.
Eyewitnesses of His Majesty (Matthew 17:1–13; Mark 9:1–13; Luke 9:28–36)
DRA For he received from God the Father, honour and glory: this voice coming down to him from the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. BSB BSB: For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
DRA And this voice we heard brought from heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount. BSB BSB: And we ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
DRA And we have the more firm prophetical word: whereunto you do well to attend, as to a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: BSB BSB: We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
DRA Understanding this first, that no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation. BSB BSB: Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation.
DRA For prophecy came not by the will of man at any time: but the holy men of God spoke, inspired by the Holy Ghost. BSB BSB: For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
