The Creation (John 1:1–5; Hebrews 11:1–3)
2 DRA And the earth was void and empty, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God moved over the waters. BSB BSB: Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
The First Day 3 DRA And God said: Be light made. And light was made. BSB BSB: And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
4 DRA And God saw the light that it was good; and he divided the light from the darkness. BSB BSB: And God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.
5 DRA And he called the light Day, and the darkness Night; and there was evening and morning one day. BSB BSB: God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
The Second Day 6 DRA And God said: Let there be a firmament made amidst the waters: and let it divide the waters from the waters. BSB BSB: And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters, to separate the waters from the waters.”
7 DRA And God made a firmament, and divided the waters that were under the firmament, from those that were above the firmament, and it was so. BSB BSB: So God made the expanse and separated the waters beneath it from the waters above. And it was so.
8 DRA And God called the firmament, Heaven; and the evening and morning were the second day. BSB BSB: God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
The Third Day 9 DRA God also said: Let the waters that are under the heaven, be gathered together into one place: and let the dry land appear. And it was so done. BSB BSB: And God said, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered into one place, so that the dry land may appear.” And it was so.
10 DRA And God called the dry land, Earth; and the gathering together of the waters, he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. BSB BSB: God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of waters He called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
11 DRA And he said: Let the earth bring forth the green herb, and such as may seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after its kind, which may have seed in itself upon the earth. And it was so done. BSB BSB: Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth vegetation: seed-bearing plants and fruit trees, each bearing fruit with seed according to its kind.” And it was so.
12 DRA And the earth brought forth the green herb, and such as yieldeth seed according to its kind, and the tree that beareth fruit, having seed each one according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. BSB BSB: The earth produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
13 DRA And the evening and the morning were the third day. BSB BSB: And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
The Fourth Day 15 DRA To shine in the firmament of heaven, and to give light upon the earth. And it was so done. BSB BSB: And let them serve as lights in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the earth.” And it was so.
16 DRA And God made two great lights: a greater light to rule the day; and a lesser light to rule the night: and the stars. BSB BSB: God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night. And He made the stars as well.
17 DRA And he set them in the firmament of heaven to shine upon the earth. BSB BSB: God set these lights in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the earth,
18 DRA And to rule the day and the night, and to divide the light and the darkness. And God saw that it was good. BSB BSB: to preside over the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 DRA And the evening and morning were the fourth day. BSB BSB: And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
The Fifth Day 21 DRA And God created the great whales, and every living and moving creature, which the waters brought forth, according to their kinds, and every winged fowl according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. BSB BSB: So God created the great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters teemed according to their kinds, and every winged bird after its kind. And God saw that it was good.
22 DRA And he blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the waters of the sea: and let the birds be multiplied upon the earth. BSB BSB: Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters of the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”
23 DRA And the evening and morning were the fifth day. BSB BSB: And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
The Sixth Day 25 DRA And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds, and cattle, and every thing that creepeth on the earth after its kind. And God saw that it was good. BSB BSB: God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that crawls upon the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
28 DRA And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all living creatures that move upon the earth. BSB BSB: God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth.”
30 DRA And to all beasts of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to all that move upon the earth, and wherein there is life, that they may have to feed upon. And it was so done. BSB BSB: And to every beast of the earth and every bird of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth—everything that has the breath of life in it—I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
