The Seventh Day (Exodus 16:22–30; Hebrews 4:1–11)
DRA So the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the furniture of them. BSB BSB: Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
DRA And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made: and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. BSB BSB: And by the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on that day He rested from all His work.
DRA And he blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. BSB BSB: Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on that day He rested from all the work of creation that He had accomplished.
Man and Woman in the Garden 5 DRA And every plant of the field before it sprung up in the earth, and every herb of the ground before it grew: for the Lord God had not rained upon the earth; and there was not a man to till the earth. BSB BSB: Now no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth, nor had any plant of the field sprouted, for the LORD God had not yet sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.
DRA But a spring rose out of the earth, watering all the surface of the earth. BSB BSB: But springs welled up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
DRA And the Lord God had planted a paradise of pleasure from the beginning: wherein he placed man whom he had formed. BSB BSB: And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, where He placed the man He had formed.
DRA And the Lord God brought forth of the ground all manner of trees, fair to behold, and pleasant to eat of: the tree of life also in the midst of paradise: and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. BSB BSB: Out of the ground the LORD God gave growth to every tree that is pleasing to the eye and good for food. And in the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
DRA And a river went out of the place of pleasure to water paradise, which from thence is divided into four heads. BSB BSB: Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it branched into four headwaters:
DRA The name of the one is Phison: that is it which compasseth all the land of Hevilath, where gold groweth. BSB BSB: The name of the first river is the Pishon; it winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.
DRA And the gold of that land is very good: there is found bdellium, and the onyx stone. BSB BSB: And the gold of that land is pure, and bdellium and onyx are found there.
DRA And the name of the second river is Gehon: the same is it that compasseth all the land of Ethiopia. BSB BSB: The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the whole land of Cush.
DRA And the name of the third river is Tigris: the same passeth along by the Assyrians. And the fourth river is Euphrates. BSB BSB: The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
DRA And the Lord God took man, and put him into the paradise of pleasure, to dress it, and to keep it. BSB BSB: Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.
DRA But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat. For in what day soever thou shalt eat of it, thou shalt die the death. BSB BSB: but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”
DRA And Adam called all the beasts by their names, and all the fowls of the air, and all the cattle of the field: but for Adam there was not found a helper like himself. BSB BSB: The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.
DRA Then the Lord God cast a deep sleep upon Adam: and when he was fast asleep, he took one of his ribs, and filled up flesh for it. BSB BSB: So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh.
DRA And the Lord God built the rib which he took from Adam into a woman: and brought her to Adam. BSB BSB: And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him.
DRA And Adam said: This now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man. BSB BSB: And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.”
DRA And they were both naked: to wit, Adam and his wife: and were not ashamed. BSB BSB: And the man and his wife were both naked, and they were not ashamed.
