Living Sacrifices (1 Corinthians 3:16–23; 1 Corinthians 6:18–20)
DRA I BESEECH you therefore, brethren, by the mercy of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing unto God, your reasonable service. BSB BSB: Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
DRA And be not conformed to this world; but be reformed in the newness of your mind, that you may prove what is the good, and the acceptable, and the perfect will of God. BSB BSB: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
DRA For I say, by the grace that is given me, to all that are among you, not to be more wise than it behoveth to be wise, but to be wise unto sobriety, and according as God hath divided to every one the measure of faith. BSB BSB: For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but think of yourself with sober judgment, according to the measure of faith God has given you.
DRA For as in one body we have many members, but all the members have not the same office: BSB BSB: Just as each of us has one body with many members, and not all members have the same function,
DRA So we being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. BSB BSB: so in Christ we who are many are one body, and each member belongs to one another.
DRA And having different gifts, according to the grace that is given us, either prophecy, to be used according to the rule of faith; BSB BSB: We have different gifts according to the grace given us. If one’s gift is prophecy, let him use it in proportion to his faith;
DRA Or ministry, in ministering; or he that teacheth, in doctrine; BSB BSB: if it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;
DRA He that exhorteth, in exhorting; he that giveth, with simplicity; he that ruleth, with carefulness; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. BSB BSB: if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is giving, let him give generously; if it is leading, let him lead with diligence; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
Love, Zeal, Hope, Hospitality (John 13:31–35; 1 John 3:11–24)
DRA Let love be without dissimulation. Hating that which is evil, cleaving to that which is good. BSB BSB: Love must be sincere. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good.
DRA Loving one another with the charity of brotherhood, with honour preventing one another. BSB BSB: Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another.
DRA In carefulness not slothful. In spirit fervent. Serving the Lord. BSB BSB: Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
DRA Rejoicing in hope. Patient in tribulation. Instant in prayer. BSB BSB: Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, persistent in prayer.
DRA Communicating to the necessities of the saints. Pursuing hospitality. BSB BSB: Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Forgiveness (Matthew 18:21–35)
DRA Rejoice with them that rejoice; weep with them that weep. BSB BSB: Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.
DRA Being of one mind one towards another. Not minding high things, but consenting to the humble. Be not wise in your own conceits. BSB BSB: Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited.
DRA If it be possible, as much as is in you, have peace with all men. BSB BSB: If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone.
DRA But if thy enemy be hungry, give him to eat; if he thirst, give him to drink. For, doing this, thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head. BSB BSB: On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
DRA Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil by good. BSB BSB: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
