1. The Resurrection of Christ

2. 1UDBAnd now I wish to remind you, brothers and sisters, about the good news I proclaimed to you. You believed this message and now you live according to it.BSBBSB: Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, and in which you stand firm.
3. 2UDBThis good news saved you, as long as you hold firmly to it—unless you did not truly believe it.BSBBSB: By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
4. 3UDBFor I have passed on to you what others first told me, that Christ died for our sins, as the scripture foretold he would;BSBBSB: For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
5. 4UDBalso that they buried him, and that God raised him to life on the third day, all just the way the scriptures said it would happen.BSBBSB: that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
6. 5UDBThen Christ appeared to Cephas (known as Peter), and then he appeared to the rest of the apostles.BSBBSB: and that He appeared to Cephas and then to the Twelve.
7. 6UDBHe later appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters in the Lord when they were all together. Some of them have since died, but most are still alive and can verify this.BSBBSB: After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.
8. 7UDBThen he appeared to James, and then again to all the apostles.BSBBSB: Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
9. 8UDBLast of all he appeared to me, although unexpectedly, like a premature birth.BSBBSB: And last of all He appeared to me also, as to one of untimely birth.
10. 9UDBFor I am the least of the apostles. I made the church of Christ suffer greatly, so I do not deserve to be an apostle.BSBBSB: For I am the least of the apostles and am unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
11. 10UDBBut God has been very kind to me, so I am an apostle, and he has done much good through me. Really, I have worked harder than all the other apostles. Still, it was not really I who worked, but God, who gave me the strength.BSBBSB: But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not in vain. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.
12. 11UDBSo whether it is the other apostles or I who preached to you, we proclaimed the good news about Christ, and you believed us.BSBBSB: Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

13. The Resurrection of the Dead

14. 12UDBNow some of you are saying that those who are now dead will not rise anymore. This cannot be true, because we have announced to you that Christ rose from the dead.BSBBSB: But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
15. 13UDBIf no one rises from the dead, then God certainly has not raised Christ.BSBBSB: If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.
16. 14UDBAnd if he has not raised Christ from the dead, then what we preach makes no sense at all, and what you believe about Christ can do nothing for you in your life or in your death.BSBBSB: And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is worthless, and so is your faith.
17. 15UDBIn addition, people will see that we have told lies about God, if the dead really do not rise again.BSBBSB: In that case, we are also exposed as false witnesses about God. For we have testified about God that He raised Christ from the dead, but He did not raise Him if in fact the dead are not raised.
18. 16UDBAgain I say, if no one rises from the dead, then God has not even raised Christ.BSBBSB: For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised.
19. 17UDBAnd if he has not raised Christ, then what you believe is useless, and God still condemns you because you have sinned.BSBBSB: And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
20. 18UDBIf that is the case, then all those who have died trusting in Christ have also died with no hope of resurrection.BSBBSB: Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
21. 19UDBIf in this life only we have hope in Christ, and we expect him to do nothing for us after we die, then of all people we most deserve the pity of others, for we have believed in a lie.BSBBSB: If our hope in Christ is for this life alone, we are to be pitied more than all men.

22. The Order of Resurrection

23. 20UDBBut in fact, God has raised Christ from the dead, and he is only the first of the many people that he will raise.BSBBSB: But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
24. 21UDBFor everyone in the world dies because of what one man, Adam, did. However, those who have died will live again—also because of what one person has done; that is, the man Christ Jesus.BSBBSB: For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
25. 22UDBThis is because, just as all die because Adam sinned, in the same way all will live again because of what Christ has done.BSBBSB: For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
26. 23UDBBut they will rise from the dead in a certain order: Christ is the first to have risen from the dead, then those who are joined to Christ will live again when he returns to earth.BSBBSB: But each in his own turn: Christ the firstfruits; then at His coming, those who belong to Him.
27. 24UDBThen will be the end of this world, when Christ will present the people of this world to God the Father for him to rule, and when Christ will bring to an end all people and spirits who are rulers, who have authority, and who have power in this world.BSBBSB: Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power.
28. 25UDBFor Christ must rule until he has conquered every one of his enemies and has put them under his power.BSBBSB: For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
29. 26UDBThe final enemy that Christ will destroy is death itself.BSBBSB: The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
30. 27UDBFor the scriptures say, "God has placed everything under Christ's power." But when the scriptures say everything is put under Christ's power, it is clear that this does not include God the Father.BSBBSB: For “God has put everything under His feet.” Now when it says that everything has been put under Him, this clearly does not include the One who put everything under Him.
31. 28UDBWhen the Son had put himself under the rule of God the Father, and God the Father has put everything under the rule of the Son, then God will have all authority over everything.BSBBSB: And when all things have been subjected to Him, then the Son Himself will be made subject to Him who put all things under Him, so that God may be all in all.
32. 29UDBIf there is no resurrection from the dead, as some say, then there is no reason for people to receive baptism for the sake of those who have died, as some do. If God does not bring any dead people back to life, then here is no reason for living people to receive baptism for the sake of those who have died.BSBBSB: If these things are not so, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them?
33. 30UDBAnd we apostles would have no reason to risk our lives every day, as we do, to proclaim the good news, if there is no resurrection from the dead.BSBBSB: And why do we endanger ourselves every hour?
34. 31UDBMy brothers and sisters, I am so proud of you; you are like my possessions that I show off to Christ Jesus our Lord. Every day I am in danger of dying!BSBBSB: I face death every day, brothers, as surely as I boast about you in Christ Jesus our Lord.
35. 32UDBIf God will not raise the dead, then I fought with those wild animals at Ephesus for nothing. What the poets wrote would in that case be true: "Let us eat food and drink wine today because we will die tomorrow."BSBBSB: If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for human motives, what did I gain? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”
36. 33UDBDo not be tricked: "If you have bad friends, you will not care to live any longer in the right way."BSBBSB: Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
37. 34UDBSober up! Live in the right way and do not keep sinning. Some of you do not know God at all. I say this to shame you.BSBBSB: Sober up as you ought, and stop sinning; for some of you are ignorant of God. I say this to your shame.

38. The Resurrection Body

39. 35UDBSomeone may ask you, "How can the dead rise? What kind of body could they ever have?"BSBBSB: But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?”
40. 36UDBYou know nothing! You do not think about the fact that any seed you plant in the ground will not start to grow until it dies.BSBBSB: You fool! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
41. 37UDBAnd what a farmer plants does not look the same as what will come up. It is only a bare seed; it will change into something entirely different.BSBBSB: And what you sow is not the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or something else.
42. 38UDBGod will give it a new body just as he chooses, and to each seed put into the ground he will give a different body.BSBBSB: But God gives it a body as He has designed, and to each kind of seed He gives its own body.
43. 39UDBNot all living creatures are the same. There are human beings, animals, birds, and fish. All of them are different.BSBBSB: Not all flesh is the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another, and fish another.
44. 40UDBThere are also different kinds of things in the heavens. The nature of those bodies in the sky is different from the nature of the things on this earth.BSBBSB: There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. But the splendor of the heavenly bodies is of one degree, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is of another.
45. 41UDBThe sun has one kind of splendor, and the moon has another kind of splendor. There is still another kind of splendor for the stars, and even the stars differ from each other in splendor.BSBBSB: The sun has one degree of splendor, the moon another, and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.
46. 42UDBIt is the same way when people rise from the dead. What goes into the ground has died, but what rises will never die again.BSBBSB: So will it be with the resurrection of the dead: What is sown is perishable; it is raised imperishable.
47. 43UDBWhen it goes into the ground, it is in the dirt, but when God raises it again, it grows with honor and power.BSBBSB: It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.
48. 44UDBWhat goes into the ground belongs to this earth, but what rises from the dead has God's power. So, there are things that belong to this earth, and there are things that have God's power, which lasts forever.BSBBSB: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
49. 45UDBSo the scriptures say, "The first man, Adam, was a living being who gave his children and descendants life." But Christ, the second Adam, gave people God's power to live forever.BSBBSB: So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam a life-giving spirit.
50. 46UDBThe spiritual body did not come first, but the natural body. The spiritual body came after the natural body.BSBBSB: The spiritual, however, was not first, but the natural, and then the spiritual.
51. 47UDBAnd so the first man, Adam, is from the earth, for he was made from dust. But the second man, Christ, is from heaven.BSBBSB: The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven.
52. 48UDBAll those who are made from dust are just like Adam, the one who was made from dust. All those who belong to heaven are just like Christ, the man from heaven.BSBBSB: As was the earthly man, so also are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.
53. 49UDBJust as God made us like the man who was made from dust, so he will also make us be like the man from heaven.BSBBSB: And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so also shall we bear the likeness of the heavenly man.

54. Where, O Death, Is Your Victory?

    (Hosea 13:9–14)

55. 50UDBNow I say this, brothers and sisters: Human beings who will die cannot obtain the things that God promises to give all those whom he rules. It is just as the things that die cannot become things that do not die.BSBBSB: Now I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
56. 51UDBLook! I tell you something that God has hidden from us. Not all believers will die, but God will change all of us.BSBBSB: Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—
57. 52UDBHe will change us in an instant, as fast as a person can blink his eye, when God's angel will blow the final trumpet. The trumpet will sound, and then God will raise the dead so as never to die again.BSBBSB: in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
58. 53UDBFor it is these bodies that will die, but God will make them live forever, never to die again; and it is these bodies that now can be destroyed, but God will make them new, never to die again.BSBBSB: For the perishable must be clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
59. 54UDBWhen this happens, then it will come true what the scriptures say: "God has totally defeated death."BSBBSB: When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come to pass: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
60. 55UDB"Death will never win again! The pain of dying has been taken away!"BSBBSB: “Where, O Death, is your victory? Where, O Death, is your sting?”
61. 56UDBIt is sin that brings such pain to us when we are dying. And sin's power comes into our lives because of the law.BSBBSB: The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
62. 57UDBBut now we thank God because he gives us victory over death through our Lord Jesus Christ!BSBBSB: But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
63. 58UDBTherefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be solid in your faith, unmovable in your life, doing more and more in the Lord's work. You know that whatever you do for him will last forever.BSBBSB: Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and immovable. Always excel in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
