Roles in Worship 1 UEB Be imitators of me, just as I am an imitator of Christ. BSB BSB: You are to imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.
UEB Now I praise you because you remember me in everything. I praise you because you hold fast to the traditions just as I delivered them to you. BSB BSB: Now I commend you for remembering me in everything and for maintaining the traditions, just as I passed them on to you.
UEB Now I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, that a man is the head of a woman, and that God is the head of Christ. BSB BSB: But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
UEB Any man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. BSB BSB: Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.
UEB For if a woman will not cover her head, she should cut her hair short. If it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or for her to shave her head, let her cover her head. BSB BSB: If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off. And if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.
UEB For a man should not have his head covered, since he is the image and glory of God. But the woman is the glory of the man. BSB BSB: A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
UEB For man was not made from woman. Instead, woman was made from man. BSB BSB: For man did not come from woman, but woman from man.
UEB For neither was man created for woman. Instead, woman was created for man. BSB BSB: Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.
UEB This is why the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. BSB BSB: For this reason a woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the angels.
UEB Nevertheless, in the Lord, the woman is not independent from the man, nor is the man independent from the woman. BSB BSB: In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.
UEB For as the woman comes from the man, so does the man come from the woman. And all things come from God. BSB BSB: For just as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.
UEB Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? BSB BSB: Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
UEB Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace for him? BSB BSB: Doesn’t nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,
UEB Does not nature teach you that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair has been given to her as a covering. BSB BSB: but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.
UEB But if anyone wants to argue about this, we do not have any other practice, nor do the churches of God. BSB BSB: If anyone is inclined to dispute this, we have no other practice, nor do the churches of God.
Sharing in the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:20–30; Mark 14:17–26; Luke 22:14–23)
UEB But in the following instructions, I do not praise you. For when you come together, it is not for the better but for the worse. BSB BSB: In the following instructions I have no praise to offer, because your gatherings do more harm than good.
UEB For in the first place, I hear that when you come together in the church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. BSB BSB: First of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.
UEB For there must also be factions among you, so that those who are approved may be recognized among you. BSB BSB: And indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved.
UEB For when you come together, it is not the Lord's Supper that you eat. BSB BSB: Now then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat.
UEB When you eat, each one eats his own food before the others have their meal. One is hungry, and another becomes drunk. BSB BSB: For as you eat, each of you goes ahead without sharing his meal. While one remains hungry, another gets drunk.
UEB Do you not have houses to eat and to drink in? Do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I will not praise you for this! BSB BSB: Don’t you have your own homes in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What can I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? No, I will not!
UEB For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night when he was betrayed, took bread. BSB BSB: For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread,
UEB After he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you. Do this to remember me." BSB BSB: and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
UEB In the same way he took the cup after supper, and he said, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this as often as you drink it, to remember me." BSB BSB: In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
UEB For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. BSB BSB: For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
UEB Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. BSB BSB: Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
UEB Let a person examine himself first, and in this way let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. BSB BSB: Each one must examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.
UEB For he who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment to himself. BSB BSB: For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.
UEB That is why many among you are weak and ill, and some of you have fallen asleep. BSB BSB: That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
UEB But if we examine ourselves, we will not be judged. BSB BSB: Now if we judged ourselves properly, we would not come under judgment.
UEB But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined, so that we may not be condemned along with the world. BSB BSB: But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
UEB Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. BSB BSB: So, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.
UEB If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that when you come together it will not be for judgment. And about the other things you wrote, I will give directions when I come. BSB BSB: If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you come together it will not result in judgment. And when I come, I will give instructions about the remaining matters.
