Spiritual Gifts 1 UEB About spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. BSB BSB: Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.
UEB You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to idols who could not speak, in whatever ways you were led by them. BSB BSB: You know that when you were pagans, you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
UEB Therefore I want you to know that no one who speaks by the Spirit of God can say, "Jesus is accursed." No one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. BSB BSB: Therefore I inform you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
UEB Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. BSB BSB: There are different gifts, but the same Spirit.
UEB There are different ministries, but the same Lord; BSB BSB: There are different ministries, but the same Lord.
UEB and there are different kinds of work, but it is the same God who makes them possible in everyone. BSB BSB: There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people.
UEB Now to each one is given the outward display of the Spirit for the benefit of all. BSB BSB: Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
UEB To another is given faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit. BSB BSB: to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
UEB To another is given deeds of power, and to another prophecy. To another is given the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. BSB BSB: to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
UEB All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, giving the gifts to each one individually, as he chooses. BSB BSB: All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines.
The Body of Christ 13 UEB For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bound or free, and all were made to drink of one Spirit. BSB BSB: For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.
UEB For the body is not a single member, but many. BSB BSB: For the body does not consist of one part, but of many.
UEB If the foot says, "Since I am not the hand, I am not part of the body," it is not any less a part of the body. BSB BSB: If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
UEB And if the ear says, "Because I am not an eye, I am not part of the body," it is not any less a part of the body. BSB BSB: And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
UEB If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? BSB BSB: If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
UEB But God arranged each part of the body as he designed it. BSB BSB: But in fact, God has arranged the members of the body, every one of them, according to His design.
UEB If they were all the same member, where would the body be? BSB BSB: If they were all one part, where would the body be?
UEB So now they are many members, but only one body. BSB BSB: As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
UEB The eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you." Nor does the head say to the feet, "I have no need of you." BSB BSB: The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you.” Nor can the head say to the feet, “I do not need you.”
UEB But the members of the body that appear to be weaker are essential, BSB BSB: On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
UEB and the parts of the body that we think are less honorable, we give them greater honor, and our unpresentable members have more dignity. BSB BSB: and the parts we consider less honorable, we treat with greater honor. And our unpresentable parts are treated with special modesty,
UEB Now our presentable members have no need to be treated with dignity, for they already have dignity. But God has joined all the members together, and he gave more honor to those that lacked it. BSB BSB: whereas our presentable parts have no such need. But God has composed the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
UEB He did this so there may be no division within the body, but that the members should care for one another with the same affection. BSB BSB: so that there should be no division in the body, but that its members should have mutual concern for one another.
UEB So when one member suffers, all the members suffer together; or when one member is honored, all the members rejoice together. BSB BSB: If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
The Greater Gifts 27 UEB Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. BSB BSB: Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.
UEB And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then those who do powerful deeds, then gifts of healing, those who provide helps, those who do the work of administration, and those who have various kinds of tongues. BSB BSB: And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, and those with gifts of healing, helping, administration, and various tongues.
UEB Are all of them apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all do powerful deeds? BSB BSB: Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
UEB Do all of them have gifts of healing? Do all of them speak with tongues? Do all of them interpret tongues? BSB BSB: Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
UEB Zealously seek the greater gifts. But I will show you a more excellent way. BSB BSB: But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
