The Resurrection of Christ 2 UEB It is by this gospel that you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. BSB BSB: By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
UEB that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures. BSB BSB: that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
UEB Christ appeared to Cephas, and then to the twelve; BSB BSB: and that He appeared to Cephas and then to the Twelve.
UEB Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. BSB BSB: Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
UEB Last of all, he appeared to me, as if to a child born at the wrong time. BSB BSB: And last of all He appeared to me also, as to one of untimely birth.
UEB For I am the least of the apostles. I am unworthy to be called an apostle because I persecuted the church of God. BSB BSB: For I am the least of the apostles and am unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
UEB But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace in me was not in vain. Instead, I worked harder than all of them. Yet it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. BSB BSB: But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not in vain. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.
The Resurrection of the Dead 13 UEB But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised; BSB BSB: If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.
UEB Also, we are found to be false witnesses about God, because we testified against God, saying he raised up Christ when he did not. BSB BSB: In that case, we are also exposed as false witnesses about God. For we have testified about God that He raised Christ from the dead, but He did not raise Him if in fact the dead are not raised.
UEB For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; BSB BSB: For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised.
UEB and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is in vain and you are still in your sins. BSB BSB: And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
UEB Then those who have died in Christ have also perished. BSB BSB: Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
UEB If only in this life we have hope in Christ, of all people we are most to be pitied. BSB BSB: If our hope in Christ is for this life alone, we are to be pitied more than all men.
The Order of Resurrection 22 UEB For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. BSB BSB: For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
UEB But each in his own order: Christ, who is the firstfruits, and then those who belong to Christ will be made alive at his coming. BSB BSB: But each in his own turn: Christ the firstfruits; then at His coming, those who belong to Him.
UEB Then will be the end, when Christ will hand over the kingdom to God the Father. This is when he will abolish all rule and all authority and power. BSB BSB: Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power.
UEB For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. BSB BSB: For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
UEB The last enemy to be destroyed is death. BSB BSB: The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
UEB For "he has put everything under his feet." But when it says "he has put everything," it is clear that this does not include the one who put everything in subjection to himself. BSB BSB: For “God has put everything under His feet.” Now when it says that everything has been put under Him, this clearly does not include the One who put everything under Him.
UEB When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will be subjected to him who put all things into subjection under him, that God may be all in all. BSB BSB: And when all things have been subjected to Him, then the Son Himself will be made subject to Him who put all things under Him, so that God may be all in all.
UEB Or else what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are they baptized for them? BSB BSB: If these things are not so, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them?
UEB Why then, are we in danger every hour? BSB BSB: And why do we endanger ourselves every hour?
UEB Every day I face death! This is as sure as my boasting in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord. BSB BSB: I face death every day, brothers, as surely as I boast about you in Christ Jesus our Lord.
UEB What do I gain, from a human point of view, if I fought with beasts at Ephesus, if the dead are not raised? "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die." BSB BSB: If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for human motives, what did I gain? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”
UEB Be not deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals." BSB BSB: Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
UEB Sober up! Live righteously! Do not keep sinning. For some of you have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame. BSB BSB: Sober up as you ought, and stop sinning; for some of you are ignorant of God. I say this to your shame.
The Resurrection Body 36 UEB You are so ignorant! What you sow will not start to grow unless it dies. BSB BSB: You fool! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
UEB What you sow is not the body that will be, but a bare seed. It may become wheat or something else. BSB BSB: And what you sow is not the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or something else.
UEB But God will give it a body as he chooses, and to each seed its own body. BSB BSB: But God gives it a body as He has designed, and to each kind of seed He gives its own body.
UEB Not all flesh is the same. Instead, there is one flesh of human beings, and another flesh for animals, and another flesh for birds, and another for fish. BSB BSB: Not all flesh is the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another, and fish another.
UEB There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. But the glory of the heavenly body is one kind and the glory of the earthly is another. BSB BSB: There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. But the splendor of the heavenly bodies is of one degree, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is of another.
UEB There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars. For one star differs from another star in glory. BSB BSB: The sun has one degree of splendor, the moon another, and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.
UEB It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. BSB BSB: It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.
UEB It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. BSB BSB: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
UEB So also it is written, "The first man Adam became a living soul." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. BSB BSB: So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam a life-giving spirit.
UEB But the spiritual did not come first but the natural, and then the spiritual. BSB BSB: The spiritual, however, was not first, but the natural, and then the spiritual.
UEB The first man is of the earth, made of dust. The second man is from heaven. BSB BSB: The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven.
UEB Just as the one made from dust is, so also are those who are made of the dust, and as the man of heaven is, so also are those who are of heaven. BSB BSB: As was the earthly man, so also are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.
UEB Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we will also bear the image of the man of heaven. BSB BSB: And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so also shall we bear the likeness of the heavenly man.
Where, O Death, Is Your Victory? (Hosea 13:9–14)
UEB Now this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. Neither does what is perishable inherit what is imperishable. BSB BSB: Now I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
UEB Look! I tell you a secret truth: We will not all die, but we will all be changed. BSB BSB: Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—
UEB We will be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. BSB BSB: in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
UEB For this perishable body must put on what is imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. BSB BSB: For the perishable must be clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
UEB But when this perishable body has put on what is imperishable, and when this mortal body has put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, "Death is swallowed up in victory." BSB BSB: When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come to pass: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
UEB "Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?" BSB BSB: “Where, O Death, is your victory? Where, O Death, is your sting?”
UEB The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. BSB BSB: The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
UEB But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! BSB BSB: But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
UEB Therefore, my dear brothers, be steadfast and immovable. Always abound in the work of the Lord, because you know that your work in the Lord is not in vain. BSB BSB: Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and immovable. Always excel in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
