The Call of Abram (Genesis 26:1–5; Acts 7:1–8)
UEB I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, and you will be a blessing. BSB BSB: I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
UEB So Abram went, as Yahweh had told him to do, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. BSB BSB: So Abram departed, as the LORD had directed him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.
UEB Abram took Sarai, his wife, Lot, his brother's son, all their possessions that they had accumulated, and the people that they had acquired in Haran. They left to go into the land of Canaan, and came to the land of Canaan. BSB BSB: And Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all the possessions and people they had acquired in Haran, and set out for the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan,
UEB Abram passed through the land as far as Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites lived in the land. BSB BSB: Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the Oak of Moreh at Shechem. And at that time the Canaanites were in the land.
UEB Yahweh appeared to Abram, and said, "To your descendants I will give this land." So there Abram built an altar to Yahweh, who had appeared to him. BSB BSB: Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your offspring.” So Abram built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.
UEB From there he moved to the hill country to the east of Bethel, where he pitched his tent, with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. There he built an altar to Yahweh and called on the name of Yahweh. BSB BSB: From there Abram moved on to the hill country east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. There he built an altar to the LORD, and he called on the name of the LORD.
UEB Then Abram continued journeying, going toward the Negev. BSB BSB: And Abram journeyed on toward the Negev.
Abram and Sarai in Egypt 11 UEB When he was about to enter into Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, "See here, I know that you are a beautiful woman. BSB BSB: As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “Look, I know that you are a beautiful woman,
UEB When the Egyptians see you they will say, 'This is his wife,' and they will kill me, but they will keep you alive. BSB BSB: and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live.
UEB Say that you are my sister, so that it may be well with me because of you, and so that my life will be spared because of you." BSB BSB: Please say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake, and on account of you my life will be spared.”
UEB It came about that when Abram entered into Egypt, the Egyptians saw that Sarai was very beautiful. BSB BSB: So when Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.
UEB The princes of Pharaoh saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh, and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's household. BSB BSB: When Pharaoh’s officials saw Sarai, they commended her to him, and she was taken into the palace of Pharaoh.
UEB Pharaoh treated Abram well for her sake, and gave him sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels. BSB BSB: He treated Abram well on her account, and Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female donkeys, menservants and maidservants, and camels.
UEB Then Yahweh afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife. BSB BSB: The LORD, however, afflicted Pharaoh and his household with severe plagues because of Abram’s wife Sarai.
UEB Pharaoh summoned Abram, and said, "What is this that you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? BSB BSB: So Pharaoh summoned Abram and asked, “What have you done to me? Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?
UEB Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' so that I took her to be my wife? Now therefore, here is your wife. Take her, and go your way." BSB BSB: Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her as my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!”
UEB Then Pharaoh gave orders to his men concerning him, and they sent him away, along with his wife and all that he had. BSB BSB: Then Pharaoh gave his men orders concerning Abram, and they sent him away with his wife and all his possessions.
