The Supremacy of the Son (Colossians 1:15–23)
UEB He is the brightness of God's glory, the exact representation of his being. He even holds everything together by the word of his power. After he had made cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. BSB BSB: The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
UEB He has become just as superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than their name. BSB BSB: So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs.
UEB For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my son, today I have become your father"? Or to which of the angels did God ever say, "I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to me"? BSB BSB: For to which of the angels did God ever say: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father”? Or again: “I will be His Father, and He will be My Son”?
UEB But again, when God brings the firstborn into the world, he says, "All God's angels must worship him." BSB BSB: And again, when God brings His firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all God’s angels worship Him.”
UEB About the angels he says, "He is the one who makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire." BSB BSB: Now about the angels He says: “He makes His angels winds, His servants flames of fire.”
UEB But to the Son he says, "Your throne, God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is the scepter of justice. BSB BSB: But about the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom.
UEB You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy more than your companions." BSB BSB: You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You above Your companions with the oil of joy.”
UEB "In the beginning, Lord, you laid the earth's foundation. The heavens are the work of your hands. BSB BSB: And: “In the beginning, O Lord, You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
UEB They will perish, but you will continue. They will all wear out like a piece of clothing. BSB BSB: They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
UEB You will roll them up like a cloak, and they will be changed like a piece of clothing. But you are the same, and your years do not end." BSB BSB: You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed; but You remain the same, and Your years will never end.”
UEB But to which of the angels has God said at any time, "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a stool for your feet"? BSB BSB: Yet to which of the angels did God ever say: “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet”?
UEB Are not all angels spirits who serve, and who are sent to care for those who will inherit salvation? BSB BSB: Are not the angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
