The Parable of the Persistent Widow 2 UEB saying, "In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect people. BSB BSB: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected men.
UEB Now there was a widow in that city, and she came often to him, saying, 'Help me get justice against my opponent.' BSB BSB: And there was a widow in that town who kept appealing to him, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’
UEB For a long time he was not willing to help her, but after a while he said to himself, 'Though I do not fear God or respect man, BSB BSB: For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect men,
UEB yet because this widow causes me trouble, I will help her get justice, so that she does not wear me out by her constant coming.'" BSB BSB: yet because this widow keeps pestering me, I will give her justice. Otherwise, she will wear me out with her perpetual requests.’”
UEB Then the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. BSB BSB: And the Lord said, “Listen to the words of the unjust judge.
UEB Now will not God also bring justice to his chosen ones who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? BSB BSB: Will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night? Will He delay in helping them?
UEB I say to you that he will bring justice to them speedily. Even so, when the Son of Man comes, will he indeed find faith on the earth?" BSB BSB: I tell you, He will promptly carry out justice on their behalf. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?”

UEB The Pharisee stood and prayed these things about himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, unrighteous people, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. BSB BSB: The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—swindlers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.
UEB I fast two times every week. I give tithes of all that I get.' BSB BSB: I fast twice a week and pay tithes of all that I acquire.’
UEB But the tax collector, standing at a distance, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but hit his breast, saying, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' BSB BSB: But the tax collector stood at a distance, unwilling even to lift up his eyes to heaven. Instead, he beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner!’
UEB I say to you, this man went back down to his house justified rather than the other, because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but everyone who humbles himself will be exalted." BSB BSB: I tell you, this man, rather than the Pharisee, went home justified. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Jesus Blesses the Children (Matthew 19:13–15; Mark 10:13–16)
UEB The people were also bringing to him their infants so that he might touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. BSB BSB: Now people were even bringing their babies to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them. And when the disciples saw this, they rebuked those who brought them.
UEB But Jesus called them to him, saying, "Permit the little children to come to me, and do not forbid them. For the kingdom of God belongs to such ones. BSB BSB: But Jesus called the children to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
UEB Truly I say to you, whoever will not receive the kingdom of God like a child will definitely not enter it." BSB BSB: Truly I tell you, anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
The Rich Young Ruler (Matthew 19:16–30; Mark 10:17–31)
UEB A certain ruler asked him, saying, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" BSB BSB: Then a certain ruler asked Him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
UEB Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good, except God alone. BSB BSB: “Why do you call Me good?” Jesus replied. “No one is good except God alone.
UEB You know the commandments—do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not testify falsely, honor your father and mother." BSB BSB: You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not bear false witness, honor your father and mother.’”
UEB The ruler said, "All these things I have obeyed from the time I was a youth." BSB BSB: “All these I have kept from my youth,” he said.
UEB When Jesus heard that, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. You must sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven—and come, follow me." BSB BSB: On hearing this, Jesus told him, “You still lack one thing: Sell everything you own and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
UEB But when the ruler heard these things, he became extremely sad, for he was very rich. BSB BSB: But when the ruler heard this, he became very sad, because he was extremely wealthy.
UEB Then Jesus, seeing him, became very sad and said, "How difficult it is for those who are rich to enter the kingdom of God! BSB BSB: Seeing the man’s sadness, Jesus said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!
UEB For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God." BSB BSB: Indeed, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
UEB Those hearing it said, "Then who can be saved?" BSB BSB: Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”
UEB Jesus answered, "The things which are impossible with people are possible with God." BSB BSB: But Jesus said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
UEB Peter said, "Well, we have left everything that is our own and have followed you." BSB BSB: “Look,” said Peter, “we have left all we had to follow You.”
UEB Jesus then said to them, "Truly, I say to you that there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, BSB BSB: “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 UEB who will not receive much more in this world, and in the world to come, eternal life." BSB BSB: Then Jesus took the Twelve aside and said to them, “Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything the prophets have written about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.
UEB For he will be given over to the Gentiles, and will be mocked, and shamefully treated, and spit upon. BSB BSB: He will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon.
UEB After whipping him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise again." BSB BSB: They will flog Him and kill Him, and on the third day He will rise again.”
UEB They understood none of these things, and this word was hidden from them, and they did not understand the things that were said. BSB BSB: But the disciples did not understand any of these things. The meaning was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend what He was saying.

UEB They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. BSB BSB: “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by,” they told him.
UEB So the blind man cried out, saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me." BSB BSB: So he called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
UEB The ones who were walking ahead rebuked the blind man, telling him to be quiet. But he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me." BSB BSB: Those who led the way admonished him to be silent, but he cried out all the louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
UEB Jesus stood still and commanded that the man be brought to him. Then when the blind man was near, Jesus asked him, BSB BSB: Jesus stopped and directed that the man be brought to Him. When he had come near, Jesus asked him,
UEB "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, I want to receive my sight." BSB BSB: “What do you want Me to do for you?” “Lord,” he said, “let me see again.”
UEB Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you." BSB BSB: “Receive your sight!” Jesus replied. “Your faith has healed you.”
UEB Immediately he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God. All the people, when they saw this, gave praise to God. BSB BSB: Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
