Praise to the Creator (Psalm 148:1–14)
1 UEB Rejoice in Yahweh, you righteous; praise is appropriate for the upright. BSB BSB: Rejoice in the LORD, O righteous ones; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him.
2 UEB Give thanks to Yahweh with the harp; sing praises to him with the harp of ten strings. BSB BSB: Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to Him with ten strings.
3 UEB Sing to him a new song; play skillfully and sing with joy. BSB BSB: Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully with a shout of joy.
4 UEB For Yahweh's word is upright, and everything he does is fair. BSB BSB: For the word of the LORD is upright, and all His work is trustworthy.
5 UEB He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of Yahweh's covenant faithfulness. BSB BSB: The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of His loving devotion.
6 UEB By the word of Yahweh the heavens were made, and all the stars were made by the breath of his mouth. BSB BSB: By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the stars by the breath of His mouth.
7 UEB He gathers the waters of the sea together like a heap; he puts the oceans in storehouses. BSB BSB: He piles up the waters of the sea; He puts the depths into storehouses.
8 UEB Let the whole earth fear Yahweh; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. BSB BSB: Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere Him.
9 UEB For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood in place. BSB BSB: For He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm.
10 UEB Yahweh frustrates the alliances of nations; he overrules the plans of the peoples. BSB BSB: The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations; He thwarts the devices of the peoples.
11 UEB The plans of Yahweh stand forever, the plans of his heart for all generations. BSB BSB: The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the purposes of His heart to all generations.
12 UEB Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people whom he has chosen as his own inheritance. BSB BSB: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His inheritance!
13 UEB Yahweh looks from heaven; he sees all the people. BSB BSB: The LORD looks down from heaven; He sees all the sons of men.
14 UEB From the place where he lives, he looks down on all who live on the earth. BSB BSB: From His dwelling place He gazes on all who inhabit the earth.
15 UEB He who shapes the hearts of them all observes all their deeds. BSB BSB: He shapes the hearts of each; He considers all their works.
16 UEB No king is saved by a vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great strength. BSB BSB: No king is saved by his vast army; no warrior is delivered by his great strength.
17 UEB A horse is a false hope for victory; in spite of his great strength, he cannot rescue. BSB BSB: A horse is a vain hope for salvation; even its great strength cannot save.
18 UEB See, Yahweh's eye is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his covenant faithfulness BSB BSB: Surely the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His loving devotion
19 UEB to deliver their lives from death and to keep them alive in times of famine. BSB BSB: to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
20 UEB We wait for Yahweh; he is our help and our shield. BSB BSB: Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.
21 UEB Our hearts rejoice in him, for we trust in his holy name. BSB BSB: For our hearts rejoice in Him, since we trust in His holy name.
22 UEB Let your covenant faithfulness, Yahweh, be with us as we put our hope in you. BSB BSB: May Your loving devotion rest on us, O LORD, as we put our hope in You.
