God’s Righteous Judgment (Psalm 75:1–10)
UEB Therefore you are without excuse, you person, you who judge, for what you judge in another you condemn in yourself. For you who judge practice the same things. BSB BSB: You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on another. For on whatever grounds you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
UEB But we know that God's judgment is according to truth when it falls on those who practice such things. BSB BSB: And we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.
UEB But consider this, you person, you who judge those who practice such things although you do the same things. Will you escape from the judgment of God? BSB BSB: So when you, O man, pass judgment on others, yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment?
UEB Or do you think so little of the riches of his goodness, his delayed punishment, and his patience? Do you not know that his goodness is meant to lead you to repentance? BSB BSB: Or do you disregard the riches of His kindness, tolerance, and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?
UEB But it is to the extent of your hardness and unrepentant heart that you are storing up for yourself wrath on the day of wrath, that is, the day of the revelation of God's righteous judgment. BSB BSB: But because of your hard and unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.
UEB to those who according to consistent, good actions have sought praise, honor, and incorruptibility, he will give eternal life. BSB BSB: To those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life.
UEB But to those who are self-seeking, who disobey the truth but obey unrighteousness, wrath and fierce anger will come. BSB BSB: But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger.
UEB God will bring tribulation and distress on every human soul that has practiced evil, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. BSB BSB: There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil, first for the Jew, then for the Greek;
UEB But praise, honor, and peace will come to everyone who practices good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. BSB BSB: but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, first for the Jew, then for the Greek.
UEB For there is no favoritism with God. BSB BSB: For God does not show favoritism.
UEB For as many as have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and as many as have sinned with respect to the law will be judged by the law. BSB BSB: All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.
UEB For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but it is the doers of the law who will be justified. BSB BSB: For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but it is the doers of the law who will be declared righteous.
UEB By this they show that the actions required by the law are written in their hearts. Their conscience also bears witness to them, and their own thoughts either accuse or defend them to themselves BSB BSB: So they show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts either accusing or defending them
UEB and also to God. That will happen on the day when God will judge the secrets of all people, according to my gospel, through Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Christ Jesus, as proclaimed by my gospel.
The Jews and the Law 17 UEB But if you call yourself a Jew and rest upon the law and boast in God, BSB BSB: Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God;
UEB and know his will and approve of what is excellent because you have been instructed from the law; BSB BSB: if you know His will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law;
UEB and if you are convinced that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, BSB BSB: if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those in darkness,
UEB a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of little children, and that you have in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth, then how does this affect the way you live your life? BSB BSB: an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth—
UEB You who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? BSB BSB: you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?
UEB You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who hate idols, do you rob temples? BSB BSB: You who forbid adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
UEB You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? BSB BSB: You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?
UEB For "the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you," just as it has been written. BSB BSB: As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”
UEB For circumcision indeed benefits you if you obey the law, but if you break the law, your circumcision becomes uncircumcision. BSB BSB: Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
UEB If, then, the uncircumcised person keeps the requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be considered as circumcision? BSB BSB: If a man who is not circumcised keeps the requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision?
UEB And will not the one who is naturally uncircumcised condemn you if he keeps the law? This is because you have the written law and circumcision, yet you break the law! BSB BSB: The one who is physically uncircumcised yet keeps the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker.
UEB For he is not a Jew who is merely one outwardly; neither is circumcision that which is merely outward in the flesh. BSB BSB: A man is not a Jew because he is one outwardly, nor is circumcision only outward and physical.
UEB But he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter. The praise of such a person comes not from people but from God. BSB BSB: No, a man is a Jew because he is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise does not come from men, but from God.
