God Remains Faithful 2 UEB It is great in every way. First of all, the Jews were entrusted with revelation from God. BSB BSB: Much in every way. First of all, they have been entrusted with the very words of God.
UEB For what if some Jews were without faith? Will their unbelief abolish God's faithfulness? BSB BSB: What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God’s faithfulness?
UEB May it never be. Instead, let God be found to be true, even though every man is a liar. As it has been written, "That you might be shown to be righteous in your words, and that you might prevail when you come into judgment." BSB BSB: Certainly not! Let God be true and every man a liar. As it is written: “So that You may be proved right when You speak and victorious when You judge.”
UEB But if our unrighteousness shows the righteousness of God, what can we say? Can we say that God is unrighteous to bring his wrath upon us? (I am using a human argument.) BSB BSB: But if our unrighteousness highlights the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unjust to inflict His wrath on us? I am speaking in human terms.
UEB May it never be! For then how would God judge the world? BSB BSB: Certainly not! In that case, how could God judge the world?
UEB But if the truth of God through my lie provides abundant praise for him, why am I still being judged as a sinner? BSB BSB: However, if my falsehood accentuates God’s truthfulness, to the increase of His glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?
UEB Why not say, as we are falsely reported to say, and as some affirm that we say, "Let us do evil, so that good may come"? The judgment on them is just. BSB BSB: Why not say, as some slanderously claim that we say, “Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is deserved!
There Is No One Righteous (Psalm 14:1–7; Psalm 53:1–6; Isaiah 59:1–17)
UEB What then? Are we excusing ourselves? Not at all. For we have already accused both Jews and Greeks, all of them, of being under sin. BSB BSB: What then? Are we any better? Not at all. For we have already made the charge that Jews and Greeks alike are all under sin.
UEB This is as it is written: "There is no one righteous, not one. BSB BSB: As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one.
UEB There is no one who understands. There is no one who seeks after God. BSB BSB: There is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.
UEB They have all turned away. They together have become useless. There is no one who does good, no, not even one." BSB BSB: All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”
UEB "Their throat is an open grave. Their tongues have deceived. The poison of snakes is under their lips." BSB BSB: “Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.” “The venom of vipers is on their lips.”
UEB "Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness." BSB BSB: “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”
UEB "Their feet are swift to pour out blood. BSB BSB: “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
UEB Destruction and suffering are in their paths. BSB BSB: ruin and misery lie in their wake,
UEB These people have not known a way of peace." BSB BSB: and the way of peace they have not known.”
UEB "There is no fear of God before their eyes." BSB BSB: “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
UEB Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to the ones who are under the law. This is in order that every mouth may be shut, and the whole world held accountable to God. BSB BSB: Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.
UEB This is because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin. BSB BSB: Therefore no one will be justified in His sight by works of the law. For the law merely brings awareness of sin.
Righteousness through Faith in Christ (Philippians 3:1–11)
UEB that is, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe. For there is no distinction. BSB BSB: And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction,
UEB and they are freely justified by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. BSB BSB: and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
UEB in his patience. This all happened for the demonstration of his righteousness at this present time. This was so he could prove himself just, and to show that he justifies anyone because of faith in Jesus. BSB BSB: He did this to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and to justify the one who has faith in Jesus.
UEB Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not also the God of Gentiles? Yes, of Gentiles also. BSB BSB: Is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too,
UEB If, indeed, God is one, he will justify the circumcision by faith, and the uncircumcision through faith. BSB BSB: since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith.
