Roles in Worship 1 ULT Be imitators of me, just as I also{ am} of Christ. BSB BSB: You are to imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.
ULT Now I praise you, because you remember me in all things and you hold firmly to the traditions, just as I delivered them to you. BSB BSB: Now I commend you for remembering me in everything and for maintaining the traditions, just as I passed them on to you.
ULT Now I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man{ is} the head of a woman, and God{ is} the head of Christ. BSB BSB: But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
ULT Every man praying or prophesying, having something on his head, dishonors his head. BSB BSB: Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.
ULT For if a woman does not cover her head, let her hair also be cut off. But if{ it is} disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or to be shaved, let her cover her head. BSB BSB: If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off. And if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.
ULT For a man ought not to cover his head, being the image and glory of God. But the woman is the glory of man. BSB BSB: A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
ULT For man is not from woman, but woman{ is} from man. BSB BSB: For man did not come from woman, but woman from man.
ULT For indeed man was not created for the woman, but woman for the man. BSB BSB: Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.
ULT Because of this the woman ought to have authority on the head, because of the angels. BSB BSB: For this reason a woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the angels.
ULT Nevertheless, in the Lord, woman{ is} not independent from man, nor{ is} man independent from woman. BSB BSB: In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.
ULT For even as the woman{ is} from the man, so also the man{ is} through the woman, but all{ things are} from God. BSB BSB: For just as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.
ULT Judge for your own selves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God uncovered? BSB BSB: Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
ULT Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man might have long hair, it is a disgrace for him, BSB BSB: Doesn’t nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,
ULT but if a woman might have long hair, it is glory for her? For the long hair has been given to her as a covering. BSB BSB: but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.
ULT But if anyone thinks to be contentious{ about this}, we do not have any such practice, nor the churches of God. BSB BSB: If anyone is inclined to dispute this, we have no other practice, nor do the churches of God.
Sharing in the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:20–30; Mark 14:17–26; Luke 22:14–23)
ULT But in commanding this, I do not praise you, for you come together not for the better but for the worse. BSB BSB: In the following instructions I have no praise to offer, because your gatherings do more harm than good.
ULT For first, I hear{ that in} your coming together in the church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. BSB BSB: First of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.
ULT For it is necessary indeed for there to be factions among you, so that also the ones approved may become evident among you. BSB BSB: And indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved.
ULT So then, your coming together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord’ s Supper. BSB BSB: Now then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat.
ULT For when eating, each one takes his own supper first; and one is indeed hungry, but one is drunk. BSB BSB: For as you eat, each of you goes ahead without sharing his meal. While one remains hungry, another gets drunk.
ULT For do you certainly not have houses in{ which} to eat and to drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate the ones having nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you for this? I do not praise you! BSB BSB: Don’t you have your own homes in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What can I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? No, I will not!
ULT For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night in which he was betrayed, took bread, BSB BSB: For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread,
ULT and having given thanks, he broke{ it} and said,“This is my body,{ which is} for you. Do this in the remembrance of me.” BSB BSB: and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
ULT In the same way also the cup after the supper, saying,“This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink{ it}, in the remembrance of me.” BSB BSB: In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
ULT For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he would come. BSB BSB: For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
ULT Whoever, therefore, might eat the bread or might drink the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord. BSB BSB: Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
ULT But let a man examine himself, and in this way let him eat from the bread, and let him drink from the cup. BSB BSB: Each one must examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.
ULT For the one eating and drinking without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment to himself. BSB BSB: For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.
ULT Because of this many among you{ are} weak and sick, and many are fallen asleep. BSB BSB: That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
ULT But if we were examining ourselves, we would not be judged. BSB BSB: Now if we judged ourselves properly, we would not come under judgment.
ULT But being judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we might not be condemned along with the world. BSB BSB: But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
ULT Therefore, my brothers, coming together to eat, wait for one another. BSB BSB: So, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.
ULT If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you might not come together for judgment. Now{ about} the remaining things, I will give directions when I come. BSB BSB: If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you come together it will not result in judgment. And when I come, I will give instructions about the remaining matters.
