Spiritual Gifts 1 ULT Now about the spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. BSB BSB: Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.
2 ULT You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols, in whatever ways you were led. BSB BSB: You know that when you were pagans, you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
3 ULT Therefore, I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says,“Jesus{ is} accursed,” and no one is able to say,“Jesus{ is} Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. BSB BSB: Therefore I inform you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
4 ULT Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. BSB BSB: There are different gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 ULT And there are varieties of ministries, but the same Lord. BSB BSB: There are different ministries, but the same Lord.
6 ULT And there are varieties of workings, but the same God working all things in everyone. BSB BSB: There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people.
7 ULT Now to each one is given the outward display of the Spirit for the collective benefit. BSB BSB: Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
9 ULT to another, faith by the same Spirit; and to another, gifts of healing by the one Spirit; BSB BSB: to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
10 ULT and to another, workings of power; to another, prophecy; to another, discernments of spirits; to another, kinds of tongues; and to another, interpretation of tongues. BSB BSB: to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11 ULT But the one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing them to each one individually just as he desires. BSB BSB: All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines.
The Body of Christ 13 ULT For indeed by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bound or free, and all were made to drink one Spirit. BSB BSB: For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.
14 ULT For indeed the body is not one member, but many. BSB BSB: For the body does not consist of one part, but of many.
15 ULT If the foot would say,“Since I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” not for this it is not of the body. BSB BSB: If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
16 ULT And if the ear would say,“Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” not for this it is not of the body. BSB BSB: And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
17 ULT If the whole body{ were} an eye, where{ would} the hearing{ be}? If the whole{ were} an ear, where{ would} the sense of smell{ be}? BSB BSB: If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
18 ULT But now God appointed the members, each one of them, in the body just as he desired. BSB BSB: But in fact, God has arranged the members of the body, every one of them, according to His design.
19 ULT But if they were all one member, where{ would} the body{ be}? BSB BSB: If they were all one part, where would the body be?
20 ULT But now{ there are} many members, but one body. BSB BSB: As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
21 ULT Now the eye is not able to say to the hand,“I do not have need of you,” or again, the head to the feet,“I do not have need of you.” BSB BSB: The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you.” Nor can the head say to the feet, “I do not need you.”
22 ULT On the contrary, the members of the body appearing to be weaker are much more essential; BSB BSB: On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
23 ULT and those of the body which we think to be less honorable, we bestow them greater honor; and our unpresentable members have more dignity; BSB BSB: and the parts we consider less honorable, we treat with greater honor. And our unpresentable parts are treated with special modesty,
24 ULT but our presentable members do not have need. But God has combined the body together, giving more honor to the one lacking{ it} BSB BSB: whereas our presentable parts have no such need. But God has composed the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
25 ULT so that there may be no division within the body, but that the members should care for one another the same. BSB BSB: so that there should be no division in the body, but that its members should have mutual concern for one another.
26 ULT And if one member suffers, all the members suffer together; if a member is honored, all the members rejoice with{ it}. BSB BSB: If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
The Greater Gifts 27 ULT Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of{ it}. BSB BSB: Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.
28 ULT And God has indeed appointed some in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, administration,{ and} various kinds of tongues. BSB BSB: And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, and those with gifts of healing, helping, administration, and various tongues.
29 ULT Not all{ are} apostles, are they? Not all{ are} prophets, are they? Not all{ are} teachers, are they? Not all{ do} miracles, do they? BSB BSB: Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
30 ULT Not all have gifts of healing, do they? Not all speak in tongues, do they? Not all interpret, do they? BSB BSB: Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
31 ULT But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And now, I show you a more excellent way. BSB BSB: But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
